10.1 megapixels | 2.5" screen | APS-C sensor

Successor to the 350D, the EOS 400D (Rebel XTi) was another big seller for Canon, and can still be found on sale if you look hard enough. The headline changes - more megapixels, sensor cleaning, improved AF system and larger screen come along with a slew of smaller (but often significant) enhancements, but the truth is that for many the EOS 400D was a relatively disappointing upgrade to its hugely successful predecessor. Image quality is excellent, and the user interface improvements welcome, but the handling and feature set didn't (and still don't) compete that well with competitor models.

Opinion: This camera has full of DSLR functions like before plus more. Totally compete and aginst D80 or D80s by using CF card. Smaller battery, smaller body, does the job as it should. Dust shaker dont work all the time but better than nothing.

Cheap price, $799 for the body is very very cheap for a starter. Good deal.

Rich, are you out of your mind or what? This camera just came out a week ago and not even in store yet, and beside, you havent even touched it yet. Why leave such 3 instead of having those in your own.

Opinion: I can't really give a rating yet, since I just ordered it. I was just about to buy the 5D, but hadn't fully decided, when I saw the 400D was due in stores soon. So I did a lot of comparison between the reviews of the 5D and 350D. Of course the 5D has a few advantages, but considering the price I didn't think it was really worth an extra 2 grand, especially with the improved continuous shooting, resolution and dust cleaner in the 400D.

Once I have the 400D, I can wait for an upgrade to the 5D

Opinion: This is really one fantastic camera the price. I cannot recommend this piece of equipment enough. If you are in the market for an entry level DSLR, this is a perfect match. If ypou are looking for a small ccamera, then is also great.

Problems: I just wish it had spot metering for those difficult shots.
