Hi to all my name is Graham I'm sixty seven and I have just joined what I'm hoping is a forum that will help me understand my camera, I feel rather stupid in posting this but at least no one can see me blush. My wife bought me a Canon 350D some years ago and like many other things it was a toy for the moment and I was quite happy to let Auto do everything, now I'm retired and have plenty of time on my hands I want to get away from auto and into manual but I have a problem. My problem is that...

Hi everyone, I am looking at buying a D7100 or D5200 in the near future but am trying to decide on what lenses to get with the new camera. I am switching over from having a Canon 350D with a couple of Sigma lenses so am starting with Nikon from scratch. I like to shoot Architecture, some wildlife/nature and eventually to get in to macro. I have pretty much decided on getting the 35mm f.1.8G DX but struggling to decide if I need a zoom in the same range e.g the 18-55mm kit lens or the 16-85mm...

After a month-long review of different lenses (primarily of Canon's and, consequently, Third-Party lenses as suggested to me by others here in this forum), I finally came up with a lens shortlist of that will suit my budget and shooting style for my planned 2014 Camera Gear Upgrade. By the way, my first upgrades this year was the Canon 60D (last January) and, just recently, the Canon EF-S 18-55 IS STM (this March). My old gear, which are still in use, are my 350D, the nifty-fifty, and the...

Finally it's time for me to step up from my current 350D with Sigma 18-200 3.5-5-6. Regarding the body it was quick pretty clear I would become a very happy chappy with the 70D. Then I spent lots of time in reviewing what decent walk-around lens I wanted to buy. I was convinced this time I had to spend a more serious amount on the glass. So after two weeks of investigation I decided to opt for the Canon EF 24-105 L IS USM. Again a compromise of course, but for what it offers not bad at all....

Hi,  I am a novice DLSR user and have always used a Canon (first 350D then the 450D).  I went to buy a new Canon - was going to get the 100D because of its compact size but the salesgirl talked me into getting the Sony A58.  I really like the quality of the photos it takes but only WHEN THE CAMERA WORKS.  The problem I have is that being a novice I tend to use the camera in auto a lot.  When this camera is in auto and we are inside it is taking the photos without the flash and the ISO being...

Hi everyone! Would love to hear your opinions to help me with my next lens purchase/s. I recently got a Canon 60D (upgrade from my old 350D, which is still in use) and now considering purchasing a couple of lenses (a Wide-Walkaround Zoom, a Telephoto Zoom, and, possibly, a Macro/Prime) that suits my shooting style, my shooting interests, and of course - my budget. Currently, I own two lenses (EF 50mm f/1.8 II and EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 III USM) in my arsenal. After thoroughly browsing the reviews...

My current gear is ancient EOS350D with Sigma 18-50 F2.8 EX HSM and Canon 75-300 F4-5.6 IS USM lenses. As you may have guessed, I have had too little time to photograph seriously for some years (kids and all). But now I just came back from a holiday where I did a bit of shooting and some things really annoyed me, so I think I need an update on gear. I am not rich so it has to be done in steps, so I need a little help on the options. My main complaints with my current gear is: 1) My...

I have checked through these forums, conducted a google search, and come up empty handed. I have an EOS Digital Rebel XT (350D) and have noticed that I don't seem to have all the menus that I should have. I have tried to check my firmware, but the Settings 2 screen only lists Language, Video System, and Communication. Is there another way to check my firmware revision? Also, according to what I understand, there should be 5 top level menus- Camera 1, Camera 2, Play, Settings 1, and Settings...

Hi, I'm new here. I recently received a Canon 350D but the CompactFlash card I ordered hasn't arrived yet so I've been messing around with the remote shooting on the EOS Utility. On some of the pictures that I've taken that have been out of focus, there is this weird stuff that looks like hair on them (see 1st photo). However, if I take a photo that is properly focussed, it disappears (see 2nd photo). I have 3 lenses: a Canon 28-80mm EF, a Sigma 28-200mm EF and a Sigma 100-300mm EF and the...

Hello, I've been using a 350D for some years and wanted to jump to FF since the 5D, when it was the "only" affordable FF solution. I'm using a Sigma 17-70 with it and I have a Sigma 30 1.4 that I don't use anymore (17-70 is the most convenient). Now, I decided to make the move and I see that there is a great offer on the market today. Maybe too great, I cannot decide what to choose. I don't have any lens (only some speedlite) I could reuse on a FF body, so I don't really care about the...
