Canon EOS 300D (EOS Digital Rebel / EOS Kiss Digital) User Reviews

Announced Aug 20, 2003 •
6 megapixels | 1.8 screen | APS-C sensor

I was very frustrated with the WB and sharpness of my 20D - so I sold it after 11 months recently. Compared with the 20D the 300D is remarkable slower in continuous shooting and writing to my Sandisk Ultra II CF card size 1 GB. It takes 6-7 seconds after the max of 4 shots until you can shoot again. Manual settings with the thumb wheel were much easier and quicker on the 20D. The exposure size is much bigger with teh 20D so if you like to extract details from a large picture it is much better ...

Autofocus really broke at approx 7000 pictures: I'd just like to mention that my auto focus broke at about 7000 frames. Fortunately it was under warranty (extended since it was after 13 months of use). I was not able to use it at all - even manual focus b/c the focus screen just hung in front of the sensor when the mirror went up. Otherwise it's doing great now. I'll definitely keep it as a back up if I can ever get a 20D or something better, that is more for “excessive” shooting – that’s ...

Have used a 300d for the last 6 months, bought it as an introduction to digital from Canon 35mm SLRs, was very happy with the image quailty handling etc. but started to get frustrated with a few things for what I was using it for, not able to manually change focus type, metering etc. so have just upgraged to a 20d (6months earlier than planned). Overall a very good camera as an introduction to digital SLRs, but less so for keen photographers.

The EOS 300d is still knocking about online and in some stores in the uk (mainly currys and dixons) for £495 which i think is a steal so i bought one last week. In the same store the 350d is £650 so it represents a good buy and as mine was the cabinet display model i got a further £25 discount and it came with the box and all the bits. The camera itself is great having come from compacts like The Olympus C-765 the two things that stand out are speed, the 300d is much faster to focus etc (as you ...

Thank God Canon had the gut to introduce this camera almost 2 years ago. To put it straight, if it werent for the 300 D I'd bet my apartment that the DSLR market wouldnt be in the position it is now with all the choice available to the average punter. We'd still envy the pro's with their DSLRS and still gripe over the price tags of interchangable lens cameras. I bought my own REBEL about 3 months ago but have been using my friends' model for well over a year - since he decided to drop the ...

I bought my camera in January 2004 en have taken about 8000 foto's. The standard 18-55mm lens is a little bit on the soft side. With the right lens picture quality is excellent. I installed the hacked software and am very satisfied with the extra options (especially the mirror lockup and Flash Exposure Control). Problems: Two foto's were overexposed and I can't figure out why, perhaps its because of the automatic program.

I bought this model in May when I was on holiday in America (took advantage of the £ to $ rate), even though the 350D/XT was available and have not regretted it. Handling is superb, images are excellent even using iso 1600 (took a photo at Kennedy where flash couldn't be used, and am happy with the quality). I installed the hacked firmware and would recommend it to anyone. Problems: None

A lot of words already said about this camera so I won't write much. It's a great camera for a keen amateur. Especially if you are ready to risk and lose warranty to install hacked firmware and enable many features of 10D which were coded out from 300D. I especially love the AF mode control, flash exposure compensation, Av mode shutter speed control with flash and ISO 3200 which are not available with the original firmware. I also find mirror lock-up and and control over JPEG embedded into ...
