Opinion: Canon 20D has good image quality and very solid construction.
Problems: The display has only 1.8 inch
Opinion: I have been usingn the 20d for around 4 years now and found it far more than satisifactory and given the fact that a lot of new models have been released i now obviously cant rate it as high now compared to when it was new. The camera produces brilliant consistant shots after another and especially when using prime lenses. I use the 50mm f1.8 ( upgrading to f1.4 soon) and 100 f2. Using these lenses the images are mind blowing providing perfect metering etc..Ive seen images from the 40d and cannot see any improvent and thats why i have not upgraded purely for the fact that the next camera i purchase MUST be a major upgrade, which now perhaps the 7d could be an option..HOWEVER the last few weeks i have begun going back to looking at scanned slides and guess what!!! as much as im in love with the digital format the scanned slides reminded me just how superior slide film is and ive now packed my 20d away and started shooting slide again, it leaves digital for dead..Instead of upgrading im now looking to upgrade my scanner and shoot with slide film, provia 100..
Problems: flash photography very poor as allmost every time underexposes badly and i use a 550 EX and still doesnt help. As mentioned on other reviews sometimes focus locks onto background rather than subject even if subject takes up the majority of viewfinder.
Opinion: This camera is an absolute classic but still excellent. Very solid and well built.
IQ is excellent, 8MP is enough resolution and noise is pretty good under control.
Fast and accurate AF. 5fps is fun.
I´ve got mine used for 300 € which isn´t so much money for such a good camera. I use it together with an 30D.
Love the 8MP CMOS sensor.
Problems: No spot metering - don´t know why.
AF has some difficulties in darkness without AF assist lamp. I would recommend using an external flash with an AF assist lamp.
Opinion: I've been shooting with the 20D going on four years and couldn't be more pleased with it. It's fast accurate and has great IQ.
Problems: None.
Opinion: I enjoy the 20D very much. I've used it in a variety of photography settings, from portriats to landscapes.
Right out of the box, I found that a few things needed to be adjusted to my preferences, including the exposure level offered by the metering (which I corrected to be a little brighter), and the ISO applied in creative modes - b.t.w. full auto won't push the ISO beyond 400 regardless of the ISO setting in creative modes. I found that fact by reading the manual... which by the way I highly recommend. If you don't get good color or contrast, and you haven't read the manual and experimented with what it has to say, there are simply some things you still need to know! Once you set things to your liking, you will be satisfied.
Problems: On about 1 or 2 out of 100 pictures, the auto-focus seems to pick the background rather than the subject, even when the subject takes up the majority of the view. Is it possible I am first partially depressing the shutter release off subject, and the auto-focus is dutifully working as designed? Maybe. I am still trying to find the pattern for when/why this happens. I've seen other reviews remark about the auto-focus too often not delivering sharp images - it is interesting to me to see what *is* sharp in the picture when the subject I was selecting is not. Something usually is... perhaps a pattern of behavior will emerge.
Opinion: First off, I'll start with my Reasons for Ratings:
Construction - 4.5 - Very solid built, kit lens - despite being a plastic mount seems solid enough for everyday use although my day to day use includes it being in a camera bag 24/7... The CF card door seems sub standard compared to the body, however - if it was on any other camera i'd say it was solid enough for a hell of a lot of use... [its just plastic where as the majority of the body is magnesium.
Features - 5.0 - Just fantastic - everythings costomisable. There is absolutely no setting that i use which isn't supported.
Image Quality - 4.5 - Very good - the best camera on image quality I've ever used. However, Parameter 1 is recommended as the default mode of the 'creative' section is slightly bland...
Ease of use - 5.0 - just amazing - all the functionality with simple automatic modes aswell - i handed this to my girlfriend on automatic and she had no problems reeling off a few decent family pics...
Value for money - 5.0 - absolutely outstanding! I picked mine up for £445 with a kit lens on ebay - for a body which was originally over a grand its amazing. I got a 2gig card with it aswell - always good to have backup memory :)
In short, this camera - now more than ever is a fantastic buy - everything's just near as damn it perfect!
BUY ONE NOW!
Problems: A few niggles such as the minor problems listed above.
Also, the ISO not being shown in the viewfinder is as anoying as the full review makes out - something Canon really should address... But, wit a LCD light it doesnt cause that much of a problem...
Opinion: If you touch mine I will physically asault you! Love it!
Problems: I cant think of a single one.
Opinion: very good image quality for the money
very low noise, even at iso 1600
Problems: tiny LCD monitor and viewfinder (APS sensor)
somtimes needs 3 EV bracketting
Opinion: I've used this camera for around 2 years now and I love it. It's well built, so intuitive to use and really does support (but not become) you image taking process. Other reviewers have commented on picture "punchiness"etc - well all manufacturers have a preference for how much saturation/sharpening etc to apply. I personally like Canon's "go for realistic" approach - let me decide if I want to further saturate etc!
I'm on about my third SLR (I like to make them last a good few years) and this is far and away my favourite, and i have had no real duffers.
Problems: I did once have a stubborn dust spot which necessitated taking the camera in, but no other problems what-so-ever.
(although as an aside opted against the optionsal battery grip as having borrowed one for a while it wasn't up to scratch- a minor problem, and in retrospect I'm probably doing as well without it- battery life is great on this camera).l
