Launched in 2007 as 'the world's fastest D-SLR', the EOS-1D Mark III offered 10 megapixels at 10 fps (still one of the highest burst rates on the market) and a wealth of upgrades from the Mark II. Plagued by reports of autofocus problems (now fixed) and somewhat overshadowed by the Nikon D3, the Mark III was replaced in 2009 by the acclaimed Mark IV

Opinion: I received my UK model only yesterday and the weather hasn't really allowed a full test of the functions.
First thought was WOW - what a performer - I'm seriously going to have to increase my hard drive space or be more selective over "keepers".
The rear LCD is a great development - much more effective and with some great touches e.g. camera settings at a size I can see without reaching for my reading specs. Live view - great for macro shots.
The low light performance is incredible - outdoor shots - 9:30 p.m. (Dark by 10.00 p.m.) last night at ISO 1600 and 3200 were more than acceptable i.e. low noise - such a contrast to my old 1Ds which I rarely use above ISO 400.
I grabbed a few "birds in flight" images and the autofocus seemed to be very accurate with a far higher number of keepers than I'm used to.
Rain all day today spoiled any real use - Motorsport this weekend should give a chance to provide a proper workout.
I haven't heard much about the supply situation in the UK - I think the CanonPro dealers have been allocated the first batches.
Problems: This isn't a point and shoot model - you have to do your homework and read the manual - I thought I was getting problems which turned out to be setting issues that I had changed - still I'm getting there!
I have also read the Galbraith report with some concern as I shoot motor sport with a 400 mm 2.8 - but it has been mentioned in this thread that the high temperature was an identifed factor (unlikley here in the UK) so I'm happy for once to be in a temperate climate! - I'm sure Canon will be looking into a firmware fix, if it's possible, for the conditions mentioned.
I have also noticed the AWB slight colour cast indoors (tungsten/flourescent), but not a problem shooting in RAW.
Did I mention what a great camera.
Opinion: very modest leap in CCD; today average CCD standard camera is 12mpx - pro expected to have at least +30% - so at least 16px is minimum for pro user can get feel of difference.
Problems: its $4000+ and it's merely 10mpix vs G9 less than $700 and 12mpx
Opinion: I've been using it for awhile now, it is by far the most luxurious camera I've ever owned, I like it so much
I'm from Italy
Problems: so expensive
Opinion: Teila Day = idiot
Problems: Some folks on this forum are idiots.
