Opinion: I was supposed to buy 500d but my budget was a bit tight that time. This canon 1000d was surprisingly amazing I can do magic shots with it.......it was so simple for me to use this camera because before I was using slr camera w/film and it's not as easy as this dslr................. in short all you have to do is to get familiar with the functions and with the mix of your artistic shots and your ready to go
Problems: no ir remote for shutters
Opinion: worth fa money n beginners like me. Quality is gud.
Problems: just want kid lense more zoom
Opinion: Well, what can I say? This is my main work camera, and for the price, I can't really complain. It produces good, nice, clean pictures, though I will avoid ISO 800+. And it works with higher end flash gun models, and wireless triggers. The build quality is good enough, but remember, if you attach your 70-200 F/2.8 on it all day, your hands will ache all over the following day.
Screen quality and sharpness is nothing to write home about, and I have trouble reviewing my pictures under a bright sky.
All in all, it is a good camera which produces good results!
Problems: - AF will miss regularly. Even with USM L series lenses.
- Very slow to lock focus on low light conditions with third party lenses. (Tokina 11-16, Tamron 28-75)
- Very limited WB selection.
Opinion: Coming from a Fujifilm bridge and a few film cameras, which all could focus the cutting edge of a sword either manually or automatically, my biggest gripe about this camera body is the lack of more focus points. Having only seven makes auto-focusing a trial and error process, and without the focusing lens found in some of my older film cameras, i find manual focusing on this canon just as chalenging as the auto mode. don't get me wrong, i love the camera! the color palette is more realistic that my previous bridge, the control of the photographic process has a better feel to it, but seeing that you achieved focus at the wrong distance when you can't do anything about it is painfull.
as a secondary point, the lack of video recording is not a problem, when i'll need it i'll just buy a dedicated tool for it.
Problems: Cons: some problems focusing right. Either switch to manual or shoot something else.
Opinion: I purchased this camera in Feb-2010 in a promotion having the 18-55 and 75-300 lens.
Overall image quality is excelent, it has a superb low-light performance. (ISO 800, 1600 with relative low noise.)
I dont like the default "greyish" soft colors (low saturation for my taste); no problem, I created my picture style with high color saturation, contrast and sharpness and got what I like.
Problems: Movie missing.
Low Value for money (today): the evolution since 2008 has been large, rendering 1000D obsolete.
Today I would buy the Canon 550D which has been recently released.
Opinion: Had this camera for 8 months. For $499 it is a great camera for anyone wanting to build a Canon system. The kit lens is great. The 430ex II flash matched well. Live View works great with all but the fast action shots. It works real well with the EF 70-300 IS. I gave it a 4.5 on features, only because of no "spot metering". The only reason I gave it away to family member is to move to a T2i so I could gain a little better low light IQ and no other reason. It is a very user friendly DSLR. I recomend it highly.
Problems: None
Opinion: This is my first serious camera and I love it. I've had it for about five or six
months and it's perfect for what I do. The features are excellent and the
buttons are conveniently placed so as to make shooting and changing modes
while shooting. I would definitely recommend this as an entry-lever SLR. There
are plenty of lenses available and this camera can easily transition from a
beginner to a more advanced tool.
Problems: None.
Opinion: Though this is my first DSLR Camera, after waiting for about 4 years to have it. My first impression about this camera: Excellent!
2 weeks already I've been using this Camera, even I haven't take a lot of pictures, but from my Newbie point of view Canon EOS 1000D deliver a great image even in a low light condition.
Problems: Haven't found yet...
Opinion: I have been using my Rebel XS (a.k.a 1000D) for three weeks.
I want to share my impressions with you.
First of all i have to say that i learned very many things from my first digital camera Fujiflm Finepix S7000 Zoom (it has manual settings). But, of course, It has limitations.
After buying Rebel XS three weeks ago i saw that it is much easier to obtain the same special effects by my new camera.
I can summarise my experiences as follows :
1. AF is very fast and accurate.
2. Low light performance is very good (by the time i will be better. I don't like using flash. i love natural light so low light performance is very important for me).
3. Very fast, you only have to compose your picture after that just press the button. You can not understand how many shoots you took in a short time.
4. Usage is very easy you do not have to think much about manual settings of advanced photograpy - for the beginning at least (just set ISO and White Balance to Auto and other settings to Standart).
5. Using P mode is very very easy and useful for learning.
6. Very light so that professionals do not accept it as a starting DSLR (they recommend 450D). But for me it is an advantage because i have neck problems and i do not want to carry heavier camera.
7. Battery life is awesome. Since i have used one time charged battery for three weeks. But for longer usage i will need a spare bettery.
I think it is the best starting camera for this price range that one can develop his/her photography with a DSLR.
Problems: (I was not expecting but) Live View is not like Point and Shot.
