Have had this lens for 5 days now. Bought at Camera Canada for $1,669 delivered to my office. Taken it out twice and must say the images the lens produces at f/1.2 are beautiful in a unique, ethereal way. The thin depth of field can be used very creatively, however, it's not meant for every image. There are times I shoot at f/11 to increase depth of field and the image quality is superb. If you can swing the price, you will not be disappointed with this beautiful piece of glass.

The Ferrari of lenses, dubbed by a review I read online that turned out to be true (unfortunately). I bought this the other day from Adorama $1600 after tax, and after a (quite large) micro-adjustment of -16, this lens is shocking. Shocking in throwing out the background, shocking in image quality (minutes some fringe and CA), shocking in that glorious front element, shockingly heavy and shockingly large. You get the point. Whichever product team at Canon designed this lens was truely ...

Some pixel peepers look at a lens and only talk about sharpness. I being a hobbyist photographer also like to take sharp images but at times it is not always about sharpness. Some times its about the perspective you get, sometimes its about the composition, sometimes its about a unique look which you can only achieve by a certain lens.So i feel to compare Image quality there are lot parameters not only the sharpness. Once in a while you test a lens and you get blown away. That is when you ...

After owning the original 85L, I recently upgraded to the second version. Like it's predecessor, it is heavy, rather slow AF but I almost exclusively focus manually but the images are beautiful. I specialize in food images and had used the 50L a great deal until I bought the 85L. The focal length is useful, allows for a nice fall off of the background, beautiful color and contrast. My only wish is for just a little closer minimum focus distance. All said, this lens will pay for itself in a ...

. I have quite bit to say about this lens... The Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM lens is one of the finest and most unique Canon L-series lenses that I've had the pleasure to own. It renders particularly beautiful images that are often immensely pleasing to the eye. It has a particular look that no other lens is able to precisely capture although that infamously pretty "bokeh" is not without cost. It's also not quite THAT slow, regardless of the opinions of other reviewers. It's essentially no ...

The 85L was a lens I lusted for over 3 years. I bought the 85 f1.8 which was (is) a great performer for the money. Certainly it is faster to focus, accurate, lighter and works decently on a range of Canon bodies. The 85L is none of these things. It is heavy, costly, only seems to work decently on pro bodies and is difficult to use at maximum aperture. Nevertheless, it is one of a kind. Sharp, reasonably fast to focus to a 1D series body and often renders sublime results. I don't use this ...

At nearly $2500, this is an expensive lens but worth every penny. Construction and optics are absolutely first rate. Images are tack-sharp. Bokeh is beautiful and creamy. It's a big lens and heavy but it's super fast and nice handling. AF is fairly slow but that's because the front element is a massive piece of glass and you're not going to shoot sports with this lens so AF is more than adequate. Is it a good value? Well, the 85mm f1.8 is about 1/3 it's price and very close to the 1.2's ...
