Since I bought mine second hand, I'm enjoying a lot to use it. f/1.4 on a 35mm lens is providing an extremely shallow depth of field (often too shallow) and great low light capabilities. Unfortunately, it flares when a direct light (like the moon) is close to the composition frame, both in or out of the frame, reducing a bit this advantage for night landscapes. It deserves for sure a place into Canon's 'oly trinity you'd plan to have, especially if you want to move (or are already ;) FF. ...View review in forums Leave a comment on this review
Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM
Very good, but not what I would consider excellent wide open. Focus is extremely fast. I really like this lens even though I don't use primes too often. Bokeh is good, though WA lenses never have as nice, creamy bokeh as longer FL lenses. In some situations you may find more purple fringe than you would want. Price is high. After testing the new Sigma 35 Art, I've got to say that it is probably a better alternative (and at a cheaper price).View review in forums Leave a comment on this review
Since getting back into digital, I chose Canon and have been acquiring only prime lenses. I purchased this 35mm after reading all the positive reviews online and before Canon's last rebate expired. Needless to say, I've been very pleased to the point that it rarely leaves the camera body. It allows me to produce sharp images throughout the f-stop range. I was at first concerned that it may not be that sharp wide open, but no need to worry. To my eyes it is as sharp at 1.4 as it is ...View review in forums Leave a comment on this review
I've had this lens now for 2 years or so. It is a consistent performer that provides photos that have 'the look'. Sometimes it's hard to describe what 'the look' is, but it has a great deal to do with fully open sharpness, beautiful bokeh, rich colour and contrast. I think that it's strong vignette also contribute somewhat. This lens performs best on a FF camera, although I get reasonable results with it on my 1D3.View review in forums Leave a comment on this review
