I've had this lens for about two years on my 1000D and I can say it performed reasonably well for the fact that it is a kit lens. If you know what to expect from it you will be satisfied, but taking into consideration that most people who will have this lens will be on an entry-level body their performance expectations might be fulfilled for most of the buyers.

Lets start by saying, nobody expects this lens to be any good, and on the whole that presumption is correct. It's soft sometimes, it vignettes, and it fringes, and it's all a bit inconsistent, but it's also dirt cheap, and functional. If you know it's limitations and then work around them, it can actually perform reasonably well.
