I must say after owning first wanting this lens, could not afford it and then getting the Sigma version of this, I had to return the sigma due to performance issues and plunge into my pocket for this lens and there has been no turning back yet. One year later countless of travels with it, countless of shots with it I am really happy with it and its performance. It took me a while to master it and wield its power but it was well worth the wait I love this lens. When I was first shopping for ...

Pros: - Excellent range for APS-C format, 16-35mm equivalent. For a long time was my #1 travel/architecture lens - Good build quality (albeit a long way from "L" lens quality) - Light, a great "walk around" lens. Cons: - Higher priced than it should be by about 20% in my opinion - Sharpness adequate only - Contrast low. Virtually every shot requires post-processing - Small maximum aperture makes it fairly useless as a portrait lens - Moderate distortion at extremes of zoom range (although ...

Great lens. Good sharpness and wonderful perspective when you shoot at the wide angle of zoom. Makes you see things in a different perspective. Interesting angles and way of viewing your image. Would highly recommend anyone shooting landscapes, city buildings etc to go out and buy one. You will have fun.

I absolutely love this lens. With its 16-35mm equivalent coverage on APS-C Canon bodies, versatile doesn't even begin to describe how useful this lens is. I shoot lots of christenings, baptisms, birthday parties, small weddings, etc., in homes and churches where often the reception or family gathering is held in a small and crowded room with lots of activity going on. The long end of this wide angle zoom is perfect for natural looking portraits and the wide end allows me to capture ...

This is an amazing lens for landscape photography. It is incredibly sharp, and it focuses fast and silently. Distortions are there, but pretty typical for ultra-wide lenses, just need to use them to your advantage. Here is an example taken at 10mm: http://danielchen.smugmug.com/Portfolio/Iconic-Chicago/22366720_ZDdfzs#!i=1787493931&k=6hrC3g5&lb=1&s=A Problems: I sometimes wish it could be faster (say, go to a f2.8), for indoor photography purposes. Lens hood must be purchased separately.

Sharp, light, fast focusing. Really fun to use, this lens is what I'll miss most going to a full frame camera. Need to save up for the 16-35L. I'll give it 5 stars if it is faster.

This is my first week with this lens, and I realised how great performer it is. Lacking the IS (image stabilisation), the lens performs more than good hand-held in dim lights. Just remember to keep your hands steady. Color retention is very good and sharpness is great. The view angle at 10mm is huge and is superb for interiors or for those scenes with large scale elements that would not fit in the frame with other less wide lenses, such as the EF-S 18-55mm, or the EF 24-105mm. The ultra wide ...

Small, lightweight yet with very good image quality. Surprisingly low distortion and resistance to flare. I use it for cityscape, architecture and even candid. Please see my mini-review and samples here: http://www.pbase.com/peterkwok/1022 Problems: Still no problem after 5 years.
