I have had the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS for about 2 years and it's rugged and went everywhere with me. I've even printed some of the shots in a BLURB book and you can't tell which shots I took with my Nikon DSLR's or this camera! The zoom was why I originally bought the camera- 14X which was very good at the time it came out. I mostly used the camera for it's HD video and it never disappointed. It was great in all lighting conditions. Recently I shot video of a girl getting her septum ...

I am amazed at how much Canon has packed into this small package. Camera itself works fine and has a spectacular zoom range. GPS is reasonably quick to lock in. I am reaching the 2 yr mark with this camera and have no significant complaints. This is the camera that is ALWAYS with me. Catches a lot of the shots that otherwise would have gotten away.

I know this camera is a bit long in the tooth at this point, but it's widely traded on Ebay so if you're in the market for a travel zoom you can still get it (cheaply too).  So maybe this will help you bargain shoppers... First, ignore the complaints about the flash popping up when turned on and being a problem.  Just hold your finger over the flash, where it probably sits naturally, and it will stay down.  Really, this is not the monumental problem some make it out to be, in fact it's not a ...

I have Nikon D200. It's heavy and big brick, so I can't take it everywhere with me. Also my wife is not familiar with it's features, she is more like poin'n'shoot camera user. I've spotted Canon SX230HS in the near Media Markt. Pink version was 25% cheaper then others, so I've bought one :) I already knew this camera, I've tested  it two years ago, and last year I've tested SX260HS, wchich is, in my opinion, worse choice. With CHDK SX230HS is brilliant. It has good lens, shoots RAW, ISO 800 ...

I admit I swap out my side belt camera (camera I take everywhere!) about every year, 2 years at the most....I love trying out new pocket cameras. I've used the G10 (Lovely shots but too heavy for your belt or pocket.) Some Panasonic super zoom cameras (the images were fuzzy usually.), and super small Elph cameras by Canon. (OK, there are excellent and small!). But the one that seems to have it all right now is the SX230. The video is freaking awesome.....yes. You can grab this off your belt ...

I bought this model last year, and it's the best camera to use if you are planning to have one camera to take photos in all situations: parties, events, music shows, beach and all others. I chose this camera for basicaly three reasons: 1. Lens Zoom: 14x, from 28 to 392, it's very nice! A lens with 28mm is very good for parties, and take photos of/with your friends, and with 300mm or more you could enjoy the wild life photograph without scaring anything. 2. Movie Record: from Full HD to Slow ...

The Canon PowerShot SX230HS has almost everything I could ever want in a pocket camera. Even as little as a few years ago, a camera this small could never have all the features and functionality that this little powerhouse has. I carry mine everywhere I go. I do not experience any extraordinary problem with blurry pictures. For really fast action, I manually focus to infinity and shoot in shutter-priority mode. This is the first camera I've owned which has a handheld night shooting mode. It ...

A great camera for an all- round compact. Took a while to get used to the focussing lag - HOWEVER - Despite lowering LCD brightness and switching off GPS I am often getting only 60 exposures from a fully charged battery... I carry 2 batteries - and am getting perhaps 100 to 120 exposures... I often take3 to 400 a day I am reverting to my SX with AA batteries... VERY disappointing...

I bought this camera as an upgrade to my Wife's reliable Panasonic TZ7. The TZ7 was carried in my pocket for years traveling abroad. Bought the SX230HS after reading DP review's favourable comments. My initial impression after using the camera for a few days was the the lens cover was a joke, a flimsy bit of plastic. A few weeks later the cover stuck half opened. The camera is on its 2nd trip to for repair. I have always recommended canon to my friends and colleagues. I have now stopped my ...

Lens guard developed dimples after 4days of use. Won't completely close. If you press, gently on it, it feels like paper. The cover over the lens won't completely close so its back in the shop. Luckily I had a all hazards warranty. Made mistake of putting it in front pants pocket with the strap attached. Guess the strap dented it. GPS would not lock on in the middle of the back yard (15 minutes on a stool) where a Garmin will lockup in 2 minutes. Does fiend GPS in middle of Best Buy ...
