Opinion: Construction is good except for battery compartment. Sooner or later this cover will break Battery life is terrible with AA. Image quality is very good as long as you do not extend telephoto too far, not more than 1/2 way and then it may or may not focus correctly. Macro is not close enough. Any closer than 2" is blurry. Also no anti scratch
coating nor is it anti-refective and no view finder. Flash wait time is awful. You will miss some shots waiting!shots!By trying to bring out a camera like this with not a large price tag, in my opinion, caused them to leave out some important features. You get what you pay for. This is going back and I am going to wait till the SX1IS comes out

Problems: No except waht I listed

Opinion: Over the years I have owned 8 different “A” series Powershots. This camera represents an excellent value for the money. The fact that this camera offers full manual exposure control is a real plus. I hate that Canon seems determined to dumb down other members of the A series with only automated or “scene” exposure options.

The long zoom makes this a versatile photo tool. At low ISO’s the noise is unobjectionable, even in large prints. 13” x 19” prints from my Canon Pixma 9000 are truly excellent with no objectionable artifacts.

Macro performance is absolutely superb, with focusing down to 1cm. Start-up and shot-to-shot speed is first rate.

Overall build quality is good, but I wish Canon would re-engineer the battery doors on recent Powershot A models. Flimsy is the best way to describe them. They must be treated delicately to avoid damage.

Personally I try to avoid using flash, as most of my subject matter is landscape / street scenes, or available light. If you require frequent flash use, this camera (or any camera using only 2 AA batteries) is not for you. However, if you do not use flash the battery life is fine.

All in all this camera is a fine instrument. That this level of specs, quality and performance are available in this price range is a statement of how far digicams have evolved in the past decade.

Opinion: I got this to replace my SX100 which was stolen. I used the SX100 a lot; more than my G9, which I think is somewhat overrated.
The SX110 is well constructed (even though I see this range is now made in China) and is a much sleeker package than the model it replaces. It feels better than the SX110 and there are no production flaws unlike my SX100 which arrived sealed with a greasy lens barrel and dust behind the front element. Identical LCD specs to the G9.
I find this a really easy camera to use and it has all the adjustments I need for a quick grab shot on the move. Image quality is pretty decent at low ISO's and Canon have sensibly kept the megapixels at bay.
The price means that I don't need to baby it as much as I would my G9, and given that the obsolescent lifespan of these cameras is about 12 months before they are replaced, I'd say that the G9 is overkill for many users wanting a point and shoot. This camera will fit the bill for a lot of people wanting a large zoom in a small package.
During the period between my SX100 being stolen and getting the SX110, I briefly tried Sony's direct competition, the H10. This is a far more satisfying a versatile product, way easier to use and just more functional.
Bottom line, a really nice product at a very good price point.

Problems: Some say the flash is slow and ungainly as it was with the SX100. I never use flash so I can't comment but you may want to check this out.

Opinion: I just bought the SX110 IS to replace my old A610. I
would say that, in terms of menus, I feel that I have
the same camera that I’ve been using for the past 2
years, with the difference that everything seems more
studied.
The shortcuts in the wheel/cursor allow you to do
basically everything you need: ISO, Macro, MF, Flash,
EV, Timer and Continuous shooting.
The huge 3” LCD seems fabulous, but I didn’t try it
yet in direct sun conditions.
The camera feels slim, especially for people used to
A6xx series with 4 AA batteries.
Amazing stabilized 10x zoom for a camera this size.
Only the TZ5 can beat this lens. I guess it would have
been my choice if it wasn’t for the Pana's total lack of
manual controls. The 28-280mm, in my opinion, is
much more versatile than the 36-360mm. Well, you
can’t have it all!

Problems: Flash recharging times
Zooming is a bit noisy. You also can hear the diafragm
changing as you move the camera across diferent
lighting.
