I previously owned canon ixus i7 and really really disappointed with it. however when one of my flatmate sold this SD990 i tried every possible way and was shocked with the ability of this great look like ford mustang GT design. i tried using in low light, i tried using in long exposure, i tried using outdoors and wallllla! i suddenly said i need this camera for everyday use and definitely love to play the manual mode. Landscape at low light is best suit for this small camera. Landscape at ...

This cam take exelent pictures,Better then other small camera's I have,It is fast, and iff you use it for an point and shoot camera, you wil find yourself out of job,the camera handle everything for you. However you have full manuel control over the cam. at wide de camera can take pictures in not so good light. but at tele you need more light, the lens at 5.8 is to slow to use in less then stellar light.resulting in poor pictures. De handle of the camera is abit wierd, the camera have no real soft ...

I got this camera in exchange for the somewhat bulky SX120. The SD990 is compact and fits into my holster. The shell seems a little cheap and slippery at times. I wish it had some rubber gripping. The cam takes great pictures in dark, light, indoors and outdoors on auto mode which makes it a great camera for point and shoot. It also takes great videos. I love this camera. Problems: None found thus far.

This camera replaced the 6MP IXUS P&S, with which we were quite satisfied, and is clearly a step up: the sensor has more pixels than necessary, but is apparently the same one as used in the G10, and the image-processing is a step up. Face detection is nice when the grandchild is not in the center of the frame. We like the instant post-exposure replay mode in which the focus point is shown in an inset at 1:1 so that focus accuracy can actually be assessed. It's a lovely, pocketable, snapshot ...

Great Camera. I usually carry a Nikon D700, but need a great Point and Shoot sometimes. The D700 has spoiled me because it has outstanding IQ. The 990 has been outstanding. I have sold about 5 to friends when they see the pictures it takes and run out and buy one. I think the new DIGIC 4 processor has something to do with the better quality than my older PowerShot SD550. I added an 8GB SD card so I can take tons of pictures. I highly recommend this camera. I don't care for Nikon's small cameras.

Excellent pocket camera. Had every type of ixus cameras but this one can compete with my "old" G9. Perfect in any occasion. Great image quality in every condition. Problems: Maybe a little difficult to hold in hand, would be nice a rubber finish on the right side.

Bought this camera to upgrade from the SD700 Elph. It takes very sharp pictures but it can't seem to handle far away bare trees. If lines are too close together, if you blow the picture up, you will see a smudging effect at various areas of the photo's. This degrades the image especially in wide angle landscape. Closer in it's as sharp as a needle. 14+ mp is too much for the sensor in this camera and you really don't get a much sharper picture, just bigger and more cropable one. Problems: Smu ...

I got this camera as an easy point-and-shoot, but I was also looking for the manual controls. The camera as a whole is great, easy to use and the pictures are of a quality that I can't complain about. However, the manual controls are a bit disappointing. The available aperture settings are extremely dependent on the zoom level, and in most zoom settings there are only 2 or at most 3 aperture settings available. This may be due to the very compact construction of the camera, but it takes away ...

I upgraded from a G7 to the SD990. Now that Canon has released an ultra compact with manual features, it has the ultimate pocket camera to carry around withyou all the time. The camera performs extremely well for its compact size. The high pixel count allows for aggressive cropping on photos where the optical zoom couldn't reach. It also has many cool features to play with. Problems: Occasional fringing on some subjects but the overall quality is very good
