Opinion: This camera does exist...and I love it.
I don't have a problem of out-of-focus picture like the
other reviewer. Its auto mode is very smart, I'd say. I
rarely have to adjust anything manually. I don't know if
the price has dropped now but when I got it, it was
pretty expensive. But everyone loves my camera! It
takes great pictures and HD video. I don't have the
washout color
problem either...and I've been using it since August
2009.
On top of that, I severely dropped this poor thing
twice (on a concrete surface, I might add) and it still
works fine. I never regretted buying it.
I didn't rate a 5 for the image quality because it still has
some noise problem when shooting in the dark,
though that is to be expected anyway.
Bottom line, if you are looking for an easy to use,
versatile functions, point-and-shoot camera for a
beginner...and you have the money...this is the one.
By the way, when I bought mine it comes with a
white leather case (pretty), tripod, 1GB memory SD
card (too little) and a clear sticker on LCD (protect
screen).
Problems: no problem so far...my only frustration is that it is a bit
noisy when the camera refocuses automatically...and it
does that all the time if you're pointing in different
directions...so I can't really take candid pictures of my
friends when I tried to sneak a shot at them cuz they
hear it.
As mentioned...it still works fine even after I dropped it
twice. I think the damage is more severe on me
psychologically than on the camera! LOL
Opinion: Who say that this camera d´t existe is a idiot !!!!!
Opinion: Camera was returned after 1 day of usage. I tested this camera out indoors and the performance was terrible. 9 out of 10 pictures where out of focus. The camere defaults the ISO at 400 when set to auto and the quality is awful. It's better if the set the ISO to 80 and let the flash brighted up the photo.
Now maybe I just received a bad camera, but I wasn't going to try this one out again. It was returned and I purchased another point and shoot with excellent results.
Problems: Image quality was very bad.
Could not focus consistantly in low light (Indoors)
Opinion: After searching for a camera to replace my 4 year old Samsung, decided on Canon and this model as I wanted the 5x optical zoom and all those pixels for my next holiday.
Had no problem finding places selling it online (unlike earlier posts here) and much cheaper than the advertised "official" price...
The face recognition feature is fascinating and even identifies the face of the neighbour's cat!
Problems: No real issues found other than the zoom and shoot switch / button could be a little easier to use. Reduced the "ease of use" score because of this.
A general gripe: Why can't Canon be consistent with the model numbers. That is, why have different numbers between US and Europe?
Opinion: mellowpaul is an idiot. this camera had a release date of april 2009, it simply wasn't out when he wrote his review. I'm adding this just to counter his stupid review. It's out now, and you can find it many places online. I haven't seen it in stores yet, but expect to see it any day. This camera had a release date 1 month later than the other current models, which is why it wasn't available. Hopefully we'll get some real reviews now that it's out.
Problems: No waterproof case made for this camera. This is a huge problem for Canon. Why make cases for all your cameras except the top of the line compact ps? I don't know what they're thinking and this may be the one reason I don't get this model.
Opinion: There's no reason to rate it 1 star for that. I found it easily at B&H in stock, just today....
Opinion: The problem with the Canon SD970 IS and the reason I rate it so low is that there is no such animal. It does not exist. No one has seen hide nor hair of it, no dealer has it, no reviewer can find one to review. It was made up by Canon for who knows what reason.
Problems: This camera simply does not exist.
