Opinion: 1. The lens is just fine, and is probably one of the better lenses for a subcompact. It
appears to be the same as on the SD700IS, which does pretty well (see Simon's
earlier review of that camera on dpreview).

2. Noise - I was concerned whether the 8 megapixels would be too much for the
small sensor, and whether the Digic lll processor would smear the higher ISO shots,
as appears to happen with the Sony Bionz processor in some cases. After a series
of full picture comparisons with Bionz processed shots, my judgment is that the Digic
III processor does not seem to use as aggressive a noise reduction algorith. The
artifacts that appear now and then with high ISO shots and the Bionz processor, do
not seem to appear with the Digic III processor. I'm not knocking Sony, and have a
Sony camera. Just a different approach. As I'm posting no samples to support this
judgment, one will have to wait for a substantive review to see if this judgment is
correct.

3. The "PureColor" LCD screen seems to me to be a noteworthy benefit. Slightly
brighter colors make it easier for me to compose and assess pictures, for some
reason, particularly in dim light.

Otherwise, no real surprises. Typical of what one might expect for a sub compact
from one of the better companies. Nice detail available from the 8 megapixels.

Problems: None so far

Opinion: I bought this camera two months ago. The same day I got it I lost interest in making pictures with it.

I must say I am a huge Canon fan and I had in the years all sorts of Canons. The last one I still can't say goodbye to is my PowerShot A80.

After reading all poohaa's on the internet about Ixus 850IS I decided to buy this small jewel with face tracking, 28mm lens fast and small camera I could carry everywhere. As I say, the same day it arrived I wanted to send it back.

Problems: The settings are not easy to use, after all it had no settings or very few. The pictures showed also a big distortion.

- When photographing straight lines on the buildings, doors you cold see curved lines. Even my slender 10 year old son looked fat on the pictures since the lines were curved to the sides of the picture.

- Macro mode was also disappointing. The flowers I usually take pictures of were overexposed with the flash which is not auto adjusting to the distance of the object.

- The pictures are 9/10 blurred, its not focusing well enough.

- The plastic buttons look cheap and it feels as if they would fall of every time I upload the pictures.

- What I use very often as a musician is the movie mode. Too bad for me but the sound is very noisy. It's even so disturbing that the users on my posted videos on YouTube had comment on it. It has a nice color ajustments though and you can use digital zoom wile filming. I wish to be able to make photos wile filming. Like my sons Casio does.

Eventually after having it for about two weeks I decided to send it back to the store saying about this problems. Too bad for me but the camera was sent back the same day again - the reason was that the booklets and manual were open and not sealed any more. Also they found some scratch marks. So that means that the coating is not good enough for dayly use and keeping it in the pockets.

Afterall it's now packed again in its box waiting for me to sell it on EBAY... but sorry not for 1/2 a price as the most people want to pay for it.

Opinion: This is the best compact camera that I've seen on the market. It's simple and it delivers.

Problems: Whoever the idiot (lxxl5) is that wrote the first review on this site apparently knows nothing about taking pictures! One of the best features that this camera has is its wide angle lens, which is truly a great tool when you need it... key words "need it". Even your slender 10 year old son will still look slender, if you'll refrain from using wide angle when you don't need it.
