With its chiselled, slightly understated design, the SD790 IS / Ixus 90 is probably the best looking camera in Canon's current Elph lineup, and with its responsive operation and surprisingly good results it does exactly what a pocket camera should do; take great pictures with the minimum of fuss. It lacks any real standout features; from the 35-105mm zoom range to the boxy styling this is Canon playing it safe, resulting in a camera that sits firmly in the 'solid and reliable' camp. That's not a bad thing, and for those of us who place image quality far higher on our list of priorities the SD 790 IS doesn't disappoint.

Opinion: Very happy with the SD790IS.
I tried the SD890IS (actually, two of them) and was very disappointed with th eimage quality.
On a whim I tried the SD790IS, and the image quality (straight out of the camera with no post processing) is SIGNIFICANTLY better. The camera also has a much more "solid", "high quality" feel to it.
I do not miss the optical viewfinder at all, but I do miss the 5x optical zoom though.
Highly recommended.
Opinion: The IXUS 90 IS here in Manila, Philippines is what they call if outside U.S. Just bought yesterday and its a great P&S digitial camera. Why? Its rock solid, edgy and it has UA lens with improved IS feature. Improved Face detection and a new Motion detection technology included. Lots of features and you'll noticed a very nice 3.0 inch PureColor II LCD screen. No optical viewfinder which is pointless, the Live View 3.0" LCD is your only choice with 100% coverage direct from the sensor. I love it! The best IXUS ever or SD series from Canon..
Problems: So far no problems.. I will try to run some test in one(1) week for any issues if there is any problem before my one(1) ends, i still have a choice to return for a new brand new replacement.. Still its the best their is unlike the other competition..
Opinion: Took some sample shots and was truly amazed by its IQ straight out of the box. Very good definition, sharpness, colour and contrast, noise very well controlled and nearly no smearing and artefacts.
The jpg IQ of this cam outclasses the jpg IQ of the G9. Although the G9 is more flexible with it's IQ due to the use of raw.(I've owned the G9 for 2 weeks and returned it because i was unhappy with the jpg results).
cons:
Although the flash output can be adjusted, it isn't really manually adjustable, and no manual AF-frame selection, but these aren't major issues for me, this is a P&S cam and should be judged for it's purpose.
Highly recommended!
Opinion: Love this little camera. Great color rendition and it takes great pictures almost every
time. The build quality is excellent with the all metal body. I was kinda skeptical but
after reading the reviews, I picked up the camera from Costco.
Nice pictures in auto mode and video. I still need to go through the manual but this
camera is a little gem.
Problems: None so far.
