Opinion: I am with this gadget for 7 months,
Strictly OK.
Dim light pictures are very poor.
Well in good lighting it is great, but many of us use P&S for instant shoots, so low ISO is a big minus

Problems: I got to use a DMX Fx9(panasonic) & Fuji F10& F11 about the same time, well they are a better bargain for the same price, especially the F 10 is great for dim light shooting.

I feel canon cameras are highly OVER RATED,though they

are still better than the sony :)

No battery or usage issues till date.

Overall just average

Opinion: While this is my first digital camera I think that overall it is a good one and fun to use. My only question concerns battery life, which I have seen commented on as being poor but which I would consider ridiculous. I seem to get only 12 to 18 shots before it tells me to change the battery. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? The printed directions claim up to 300 shots before recharging. I am using the original Canon battery and one additional one that I bought with the camera. Are longer-life batteries available?

Problems: Very short battery life!

Opinion: I spent yesterday afternoon at Best Buy trying to decide what Sony DC I should
purchase, having just sold my last one on eBay. I have had 6 Sony's over the past
10 years and have had a favorable relationship with Sony - except with their latest
decision to start changing the size and functionality of their expensive memory
sticks. During my quest at BB for the perfect Sony - probably the M1 or M2 , the
Canon rep who was there for the weekend asked if she could answer any quesions
and show me a Canon or two. I explained my situation and was looking for a
camera that would do decent photos as well as good videos. She explained the
Canon line and narrowed it down to a SD400, SD450 and SD550. I tried all 3 and
played around with all the features - after 2 hours of hands on Canon cameras I
decided the SD450 won mainly because of the larger LCD, and smaller size frame. I
told her I would take a look on the Internet to see about pricing as the store was
sold out of SD450's. BB wanted $349 + $26 tax = $375. She also showed me the
Canon CD510 dry dye printer which was fantastic compared to the HP375 I have
been using.

A search of the usual DC online retailer led me to stacking some coupons at Dell
and coming away with the SD-450 for $275 delivered. I also went to ZipZoomFly
and got a Patriot 2GB 133X Extreme Performance Secure Digital Memory Card for
$97 after rebate AND a CD510 Canon printer for $94 2nd day air was free. Last
stop was Buy.com for the spare battery, carrying case and camera lanyard 3 piece
set for $44 with free shipping

A follow up will be posted after I have had more time with the SD-450

Problems: None noted in my 2 hours playing with the camera at BB

Opinion: I got the SD450 because I wanted a pocket size camera to complement my 3-year old G2. So far I'm quite impressed. Start-up and shutter lag times are very short. Image quality is very good. Exposure adjustments (snow, etc.) are easy to use and did the job (I usually underexpose 2/3 stop on the G2).
My only real issue is low light capability and (what I consider) poor flash performance - very short range. It's something I'm going to have to work on (change ISO; exposure compensation; etc.).
Overall I very pleased.

Problems: None.

Opinion: Just purchased the SD450 a couple of weeks ago. I would recommend this camera in its category.

Picture quality in general is pretty good ( not the best in low light conditions with use of flash). Color saturation, as usual with Canon, is very good. Sharpness of photos is also above average.

I like the features and the menu system. Easy to get to the most important options such as ISO , Flash, Auto/Manual and more. Llike the way software is designed too, gives a "high quality" look.

More importantly, this Canon comes with pretty much everything feature that such a small camera could come wth. Viewfinder is intact along with a large screen. You can also attach an external flash if you wish to. Not to mention the 35mm wide angle. All these features are a recipe for a great little camera.

However, do not start comparing it with high end models, you'd be disappointed. After all, it is ultra-compact. Do not get scared of the soft corners with the use of flash in low light. After doing extensive research, I discovered that this "vegnetting" is an issue with even the most professional cams. NOT uncommon. Zoom in a lil bit and enjoy the camera

Problems: LCD resolution could have been higher but that is compensated for by the viewfinder. Personally to me, a viewfinder is very important because, 1. you can take pictures in very bright daylight when LCD is not so clear to see and 2. you can save a LOT of battery. I use the viewfinder more often than LCD.

Exposure COmpensationn is there but no control over Flash Intensity. I would love to have that feature but i guess I could live without it.

The only one thing that really pushed me away little at one point was the movie compression. Why cant Canon use MPEG-4 compression??????. if you wana take decent size movies, get a 1GB card if not 2 GB.
