Opinion: If you can still pick up one of these, do it. I find my SD400 produces better pics than the SD800 IS, the SD1000 and the SD750.

Opinion: Fantastic image quality, even at 100%, the pictures are surprisingly sharp for a point and shoot. Excellent color rendition, very good even with contrasty images. Controls are intuitive and are logically placed.

Decent flash range, although redeye is predictably a problem. However, the use of the pre-flash to reduce redeye greatly reduces battery life.

Problems: Screen is extremely fragile. I purchased the PSC90 hard leather case and was careful with the camera, but I quickly broke the screens on two different SD300 cameras. I replaced with a third camera--an SD400, which lasted longer--but the screen still cracked after about 6 months--very annoying.

I replaced my SD400 with the Fuji Z3--night and day difference. No issues at all with durabilty of that camera. I actually am sacrifing image quality slightly for durablity. But after 3 broken screens on the SD-series cameras, I've had enough.

Canon needs to protect the LCD better--this was a problem with the SD200 and 300, and now that the screens are bigger (SD450, 500, 600), the screens will be even more fragile I predict.

Opinion: This is my first digital camera and I find it very easy to use and certainly
more portable than my 30 year old Canon AE-1 SLR camera. Its shirt-
pocket size is handy for on-the-spot shooting.

I use my camera when I travel, shooting pictures that I later use as
subjects for paintings. The pictures are sharp, and the color is excellent,
allowing for photo retoucing and cropping on my computer.

Problems: None

Opinion: When I bought this camera, it was the best thing available in this small size. The size is great.

Pros:
1. SMALL. This is the main reason to get it.
2. Long battery life. Lots of photos per charge.
3. Sturdy exterior -- except for mode button (review - movie - still) on rear and a flimsy battery door.
4. Optical viewfinder

Cons:
1. Lens. OK for a P&S; Noticeable fringe/CA. Does not zoom out very wide.
2. Image quality. Average. Tends to blow highlights and tends to be contrasty -- but not crisp. Noisy at 200 ISO. Only goes to 400 ISO (probably good with the likely noise level.) Optics mediocre.
3. Saves only in JPG.
4. No manual override. (Some adjustments are available.)
5. Flimsy battery door
6. Difficult to hold steady -- it's so small!

Opinion: It's a really neat little pocket size P&S camera, very easy to use. I bought it at great value for money as a gift for a relative. Just testing it today before wrapping up, and it has a dead pixel. Picture quality also not as good as I expected but it was lowish light so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt on that.

Problems: Dead pixel right near the middle of the sensor.
I'm sending it straight back to the vendor.

Opinion: I bought it at its end on the market and for $200+ it was great value for money - a small and easy to use piece for common snapshots, quickly pulled out of the pocket. In good light it performs well, except at full tele, and the built in flash seems to have a much better range than similar products. It is somewhat limited in features and should be considered as shoot on the fly or for those who just take photos (party, family, holiday etc.)

Problems: At full tele it sometimes has problems and shoots somewhat blurry images, even in appropriate light environments. The battery life is a bit poor (but ok considering the size of the camera). The display should have had some protection, like a glass or plexiglass window found on eg. watches. But the main disadvantage is (and it goes for all PowerShot series) is the camera is roughly said locked to Windows (XP) if not using a card reader. It needs driver and software installation and seems to depend on (at least on parts of) the uPnP. May other brands appear as a flash drive when hooked up on a computer, but not this one. And since the camera is small, its hatches feel a bit fragile.

Opinion: I use this camera with the watercase a lot when I'm surfing with friends. I bought the product used and found the water case for it on ebay. It is a great camera but lighting is everthing.... especially in water.

My solid opinion ... its a good point and shoot below $200.

To view the shot I've taken go to my gallery on PBASE:

Problems: battery life is sucked out fast by the use of flash

Opinion: Red-eye problem - Nice camera, reminds me of the S100 I got in 2000, however there is a BIG PROBLEM, horrible red-eye on all flash shots, this a deal breaker as far as I'm concerned, I had forgotten about this problem with the MinoltaX I'd had since as my P&S camera (also have the D7i)

Problems: Red eye is a disaster
