Opinion: After returning a Canon SD870, I got this because my Fiancé had one and was pleased
with it (as was I when I borrowed it). It's really small but still easy enough to use,
however we are BOTH returning ours if we can...
If they didn't constantly have "issues" that prevented them from being useful, they'd
be absolutely stellar cameras for the money.
Problems: Hers stopped focusing when zoomed in. As in, you'd press the shutter button
halfway, and it would beep once, indicating that it could not find a focus point in
the scene. This was only when zoomed, if she had it wide open then it would
focus OK most of the time.
We have BOTH had "Lens Errors" crop up, where the lens either won't come out or
go back in. Right now, mine's stuck in the out position and it won't go back in.
The camera then, is essentially a $150 paper weight, because it won't actually DO
anything. Except beep at me. And inform me that it's a useless pile of JUNK that
has a fatal lens error.
This is not a lemon thing; BOTH our cameras, the same model, have done the same
thing. As soon as hers gets back from Canon for service for the focus issue, I'm
sending them both back to Amazon.
I really expected better from Canon.

more about my experience here</a>
Opinion: Has some problems, read this before decide. The quality of images is good, all depends on settings you tune your camera, and you have a lot of settings to tune, if needed. It's small, and tough enough - i keep it in my pocket every day, don't feel the weight, and have dropped it multiple times in sand or pavement, nothing broken.
Amongst cool features i must mention:
- long shutter time for night shots,
- time lapse function, this one is amazing,
- super video quality for small cam like this,
- the battery is really good, i charge it whenever i want, not waiting until it dies, and this has not even reflected on its quality, still holding long and enough,
- and yeah, you can customize this camera a lot - turn off annoying sounds, turn off automatics, shoot for HDR, etc.
Full review and examples from my camera are on my site Freelance-Web.org
Problems: Two usability flaws - the power off button too close to shutter button. There have been times when instead of taking picture in rush i click the power off. Once this might ruin a nice one in a life time shot..
Other embarrassing flaw - the flash taks 5 seconds to power up. Forget quick shot in dark room, people will have to wait 5 seconds asking have you done the shot? And also if you have forgotten to switch off the flash, and there's happening something right now - forget it, you'll have to wait those 5 sec while camera loads its flash, by the time your sensational shot will have walked/ended already.
If you buy this camera, look for a really low price, it's now almost two years old model, still a good one, but not worth to pay more than 200 USD.
And better keep it in it's bag, because from keeping it in my pockets it has gotten dust into its optics, can't wipe them off, they're from inside, must bring to repair someday..
Opinion: The SD100 is a small, solidly built camera. It's a nice camera all around although it has quite a tendency to blow the highlights in pictures and colors are over saturated in the default mode. The pictures are not sharp out of the camera but a little sharpening on the computer will really help. The auto white balance is not very accurate but will do the job in most lighting situations. The menu system and controls are a little bit confusing at first but you get used to them pretty quickly.
Problems: -Image quality could be better.
-Auto white balance not very reliable. (Custom WB available)
-You may have a small problem getting around the menus at first.
Opinion: I borrowed one for a few weeks to compare to my SD750. It's 50 bucks cheaper (it was $150 US), smaller, has an optical viewfinder and takes the same nice pictures.
It's not going to be your do-all versatile camera. It's an Elph, Stick it in your pocket or purse and take it out whenever. Most of the time, it won't let you down.
Works best in good light. OK for flash for small groups.
Opinion: I've tried a lot of compacts and this one I will keep. It's just simply a great point and shoot. Images are sometimes a bit soft but they are easily sharpened (with in my case a free tool like Picasa). I really don't miss IS. I've had the f31fd and I almost never used it's IS. Colours are nice and enough to choose from. There is just enough manual control. I wouldn't need more from a point and shoot. If I want more control and better image quality I'll buy a dslr.
With the price of this one people on a budget can have both. The reliable P&S and the entry level dslr.
Compared to other compacts in it's price range or above the ixus gives real value for money. I payed 150 euros for it and it outshines many camera who are in a higher price segment.
You can just drop it in your pocket or little bag and just shoot whatever you like , whenever you like and get nice pictures which you easily can sharpen when needed.
Problems: -No battery indicator untill it's almost empty: how am I supposed to know when to charge the battery before i'm left with an empty one?I don't want to carry an extra battery in my pocket.
-plastic covers of battery and usb compartments.
Opinion: GREAT CAMERA. For a point and shoot camera at this price you just can't beat it. I owned a large magazine and advertising agency so I know quality photos and things of the sort. I have had dozens over camera inexpensive to the ridiculous and this this is just amazing. The photoquality just on automatic mode stuns the professionals I work with over and over. I use it to take photos of my 21 months old son and have taken over 25,000 photos with it. I just throw it in my pocket and have it with me everywhere I go. I could never lug a huge camera aruond with him and it would sureley break. This thing has been dropped, sat on, poked etc and it is still standing up. I recently was at a store that did not carry this and bought a casio or some other POS for my dad cause he needed one and and we returned it and bought another one of these. It is SO easy to use and things are just where you need one. I operate it w/ one hand things like switching from viewing to camera to video are a snap. It is also fast which is important w/ little kids... If it is off i can have it on and snapping photos in seconds.. battery life is great, flash is powerful and the video quality is decent in low light, great in high light. Once again we are talking a $175 camera!!!
Problems: I finally broke it at the beach because I got sand in it and went out and bought the same exact one....
Opinion: Returned the camera after 2 days. Amoung it's main competitors, this camera has poor image quality.
Bought it for my wife as she wanted a new compact camera. She is no where near the camera snoob I am and she did not like the camera.
Every shot was soft and searched forever to focus. ISO quality was bad as well, gain was evident even in lower ISOs.
If you can find this camera in low $100 then it may be a decent deal. However, peaking at the $200 - walk away. I think I may try the A720.
Problems: Soft focus and lots of grain in all the pictures regardless of ISO level selected.
Opinion: best camera for price and size. i purchased it for 149.95 .It goes with me everyplace because of its size and takes great phots. The one issue I have it lacks a battery meter.
Problems: no problems. BUY IT.
Opinion: I bought this camera b4 xmas.... very happy with the picture quality... I use it as my second camera and replace my old Canon sd230. This camera also fit in my old waterproof case (DicAPac).... I use it for my Ski trip and took some wonderful picture.
Problems: picture works fine on my Wii photo channel but Canon change the Codec format therefore I cannot play video on my Wii from this camera.... Canon..why change the format ...! Otherwise this camera is perfect for my use.
