Opinion: The digital Ixus series of cameras have always been a quality batch.
Having owned the Ixus V, V2 and at present, V3; I'm extremely excited that Canon has finally break the x2 zoom barrier as well as includes manual aperture selection into the same form factor. Of course, it's just as great to have 4MP to play around with, as well as a longer battery life. Cheers to Canon.
Can't wait for it to reach my local shores!

Opinion: I do agree that the 3x focus is certainly a step fowards, but: why is there only the reduced 320 x 240 pixel video modus?? Thats really poor. Why should one "upgrade" on a camera like that??
Opinion: Shame on Canon!!
They dropped the 640x480 movie mode that was a very well-received feature of the S230. The S400 camera supports LOWER-RES movies only. Quite a shame. The dropping of this feature, which I use quite often with my S230 to capture 30-second sniplets of life, DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. Canon is not being very nice to its S230 users who would otherwise be interested in upgrading to the S400.
Opinion: I was surprised when I saw reader reviews, knowing the camera hasn't shipped yet. Why not, I guess. Anticipation of a Canon camera with this feature set is over the top.
I know I'm going to love this camera. I have a Canon 110 now (2MP, 2x Zoom). I have pushed my little Elf to the limits, getting great 8x10 prints. But I run out of pixels at higher resolutions. While I've learned that I can upsample to add pixels and then introduce a film-like grain effect, and the results are okay, I still want (need) more pixels.
I was asking in the Canon forum just a few weeks ago what the maximum resolution and zoom Canon would be able to achieve with the Elf line. The consensus seemed to be that 2MP was it. That, the 3MP wasn't much (any) better. That, the small glass would be a limiting factor. Still, a few posters seemed to offer hope that there is always better glass and a different sensor. I sure hope that is the case.
I won't be waiting for reviews. I've pre-ordered my camera, and hope to be first in line.
