Very disappointed in this camera. Blurry images and chromatic aberrations abound. This camera changed my opinion about Canon. I told a friend you cannot go wrong with Canon, so get the camera, it has a decent review at dpreview, and will be a good upgrade from his Minolta 7HI. I was never more wrong and embarrassed that I recommended this change. It helped me though understand the difference in the target market and the quality of the S3 IS vs the 7HI. Very much a low end camera with ...

Overall, this is a good "bridge" camera like the Fuji S5200 & 6000. The 12x optical zoom (35-43 mm @ 35 mm equiv) in a relatively compact package (definitely smaller than the Fujis) is its claim to fame and saving grace. The IS works quite well, otherwise you wouldn't be able to use it at the long end without significant motion blur from camera shake. Manual features like Aperture and Shutter priority are very useful, as is flash exposure compensation, which isn't always found on P&S models. ...

I bought this after reading review after review in magazines which all rated the very S3 highly. After a year of use I can say it's just an 'alright camera'. The images are a bit on the soft side. And the lens isn't the sharpest corner to corner. It's ease-of-use is just OK, nothing special. So I have come away mildly disappointed. Perhaps, this is to do with having over optimistic expectations following a series of excellent reviews. Things I like : The zoom is quick and quiet. The video is ...

Good if you need an ultrazoom. But do you need it? I decided for S3 IS after two months search for a all-in-one light camera with as much manual control as possible, AA batteries and not a full DSLR, so I can not spend more money on the lenses. Other cameras I considered were Panasonic FZ-50, LX-2 and Sony DSC-H5. D50 and Canon 300+ were out of my budget and too heavy as well. Previously I used Sony DSC-V1 and W5 compacts and analog SLR cameras. At first I was seriously disappointed by the ...

12x zoom is good, hovewer i rarely use it. 6MP are okay, this means you can keep it at maximum without eating up to much space on the card, on your hard disk on your cd/dvds. Image is okay, zoom is okay, all the features are okay. Unfortunately is not usable. Problems: Is a cheep plastic toy. In the pictures it seems a professional object, but whey you unpack it you immediatley realise that is cheep. Maybe i have this feeling because i own the PRO1 either. I unfairly make a direct comparison ...

I owned this camera for only a few months but got some very decent shots with it Problems: The problem was, I could rarely be sure what shots I was about to get as both viewfinders were hopeless. I find using LCDs a bit awkward at the best of times but this one was so poor it made the problem much worse than usual. Normally this wouldn't have been too much of a problem for me as I am more than happy to use the provided eye-level alternative. This electronic one was very nearly unuseable ...

Bought this camera after reading dpreview review. Used it for a couple of months. I have to say I was very disappointed in the quality (Construction and Image). The construction feels like cheap quality plastic toy. You have to be very carefull with the battery compartment cover. Which was very flimsy. As far as picture quality goes, we took it to our trip to the U.K. Took almost 500 pictures. Very few of them came out to be usable. Colors appear to be overprocessed and unnatural. ...

Used Canon S3 for 2 weeks, more than 2500 shots. Picked up this camera to second my Pentax *ist DS, as both cameras use the same power source and media. The design & look of the camera is nice, black color is also considered more "professional" (you can take it as a joke also =). It is also comfortable to use (hand grip design is nice). I was not happy with build quality, too many crackles in serious situations, feels cheap. The rubber-like handle makes its job, however is not real rubber, ...

Five months, two cameras, problems. I had to replace the first one as humidity screwed (Savannah, GA) up the whole works. I have been dissapointed on many counts. The first is the ISO which, as a previous reviewer mentioned, is a joke at ISO 800. The menu button is poorly placed and I find myself clicking it by mistake a lot. The manual focus is poor and unusable. The pictures get artifacts like you would not believe at ISO 400 and sometimes creep into ISO 200! Purple fringing is the order ...
