I just recently got this camera, and choose it over the S5. I love it. I used to have the A710 and took it back due to the flash recycling time. The S3 is very very fast, and I very happy with it. It takes great pictures, virtually no shutter lag. The menus are very easy to get around in. I am still learning all the different modes and functions, and the camera is getting better and better as it goes. I have no complaints whatsoever. I am still using the factory batteries that came with ...

I'm pretty novice when it comes to photography, but as an upgrade from an archaic 3 megapixel no-zoom bargan bin digital camera, this really was excellent. I purchased mine last year right before christmas season for $300, and so far it's been demonstrating consistant quality. The zoom is really great, I've taken photos in heavy rain where I've been able to zoom in across a 6 lane street at someone else's humvee and get somewhat legible license plate numbers off of it. Battery life is pretty ...

After flirting with Panasonic alternatives (TZ3, FZ8), I finally settled on the S3 as my DSLR backup. Recent price drops because of the impending S5 launch have made the S3 something of a bargain. I paid an unbelievable £175 for mine. RRP is £499. For me it was a close call between the S3 and the Panasonic FZ8. Eventually, the S3 came out on top because the handling feels so good, but most importantly because the image quality and hit rate is a step ahead of the Panasonics. Since making my ...

I just purchased this camera a couple of days ago, and after taking about 200+ test photos, and a few videos, I find the S3is to be by far the best mid-range camera I have used/owned to date. For reference, I have personally owned the following cameras over the last several years: HP C30, Nikon Coolpix 700, Coolpix 800, Fuji S602Z, Canon A60, Olympus E-10 DSLR. (BTW: I still have the Canon A60) I really like the design of the Canon S3. It has a very solid feel. It is easy to hold, without ...

The main reason I bought this camera was to use it as both a still and a video camera. I read a lot of reviews of a lot of cameras, and although it has relatively low MP, this camera does take GREAT movies, for a still camera. The stereo sound, and the ability to zoom during filming, were big selling points for me, as well. This camera, and the S5, i'm sure, does great as a hybrid still/video camera for a family of 6 that likes to take a lot of spur-of-the-moment photos, and videos. I love ...

I bought this after reading review after review in magazines which all rated the very S3 highly. After a year of use I can say it's just an 'alright camera'. The images are a bit on the soft side. And the lens isn't the sharpest corner to corner. It's ease-of-use is just OK, nothing special. So I have come away mildly disappointed. Perhaps, this is to do with having over optimistic expectations following a series of excellent reviews. Things I like : The zoom is quick and quiet. The video is ...

My first digital camera was the A95, which I still have. I purchased the S3 in December of 2006 and I have to say it is such a fun camera to use. Very fast focus, smooth and quick through the range 12x lens. I love the feel of the camera...it just fits my hands like a glove. Things I like the most: 1. Speed of operation 2. Huge FUN factor 3. Look and feel of camera 4. relatively fast lens for a point and shoot 5. Great macro mode Things that I'd like or not as pleased with: 1. More powerful flash

Very good camera for the money: I purchased this camera Thanksgiving 06 in preparation for a vacation to Germany and Italy. My main criteria for purchasing a camera were 12x zoom, price and 6MP or above. A handful of camera fit what I was looking for. Being new to it, I admit I haven't used all the features on it yet but I find the camera very easy, light weight and I love the 12x zoom. I have been able to take some decent shots even from the plane and with glass in front of me. A little ...

Canon S3 IS is the king of non-DSLR cameras, and a railfan's best friend. Capable of taking stills, movies with stereo sound, a sound recorder independent of the camera element, amd many different modes to choose from (including full manual control). Though it does not replace dedicated devices such as a DSLR, digicam, or professional audio recorder, it is an excellent jack-of-all-trades for the average user. Problems: Battery meter could provide better advance warning.

Sorry for my english. Experience after 7 months of use: Very good build, nice design (plastic has very good finish). Lens with IS is very good, feels very precision in fitting. Focus speed is lightning fast thank USM, especially in good light condition. Lots of settings menu and customizable button on back. Big advantage is LCD with joint. Pictures are sharp in normal light cond., espec. very nice skin tones. I was pleased with picture quality in general photographic situation. Video with ...
