Opinion: Perfect beginner's Ixus - fabulous images, robust construction, reasonably cheap second-hand. I still get great shots with the Ixus v and heartily recommend this and the v2 to people who don't know what they want but want to get started properly. The power consumption and speed are much better than its predecessor, the original Ixus (S100).

Problems: Interface is not as good as the Ixus v2. That's no reason to pass it by.

Opinion: Well-built, fine pictures.

My first digicam, donated to a relative after 2 years/3500 pics.

After 4 years of (ab)use on 5 continents, this camera is still going strong, highlighting its exceptional build quality.

Its pictures are very balanced and pleasant, even by late 2005 standards.

Its 2MP sensor seems to have lower noise than newer, higher resolution ones with tight pixel pitch.

Problems: Very slow by current standards, taking pictures from a moving vehicle is a crapshot.

User interface is very basic, however its full auto mode yields a very high percentage of good pictures even when used by beginners.

Pictures a little soft.

Opinion: My first camera and I love it. Camera is still kicking after a year or more of heavy use. Granted you are doing any photo shoots for a magazine cover with this camera but I took some nice shots of family and friends that are still up on there frames. So for the fun family and friend shooter this is your camera, and for the public safety community perfect sized camera for your shirt pocket. Tough camera that still is kicking.

Problems: No problems but I heard flash card door is fragile so beware.

Opinion: I've loved this camera ever since I've had it. It takes very fine pictures, and is very small, light, and easy to hold. It's got many features, such as lighting controls, macro-mode, scene mode, movie taking with sound (even though you can't preview the sound directly on the camera), and many more things and settings for people who enjoy playing around with these types of things. The software it comes with for downloading and archiving is fine, and the image editing program is one I hadn't heard of before, but seems like an imitation of Adobe Photodeluxe, and it's works fine. Because of it's size, I can easily slip the camera into a pocket and take it around with me. It has an exceptionally good flash: I took a picture in almost complete darkness and the picture came out almost with the crisp brightness I get during normal outdoors lighting conditions. It's very good for taking portraits, as the red eye reduction flash seems to bring out people in the picture more brightly then the background. I like that the shutter speed can be controlled (only without the flash) by how long the button is held. I'd readily recommend this camera. I advise purchasing larger storage media, as you'll want to take a lot of higher resolution pictures once you get your hands on this :).

Problems: LCD is very battery consuming, and as the battery is proprietery, pruchasing another one isn't easy or cheap. Battery area can get a bit hot after being on a while. Deleting pictures requires one step to many. Otherwise, I am very happy with this camera.

Opinion: Hi,

no discussion, the camera is very nice. After one yaer I took probably 8000 photos in total ... :-)

However, there is on problem annoying me a lot:

Problems: By time the viewfinder got dirty (50% of the time the camera is in my pocket) and, obviously, the internal of the camera as well. - Did anybody tried to open the camera just to clean? If so, what do I have to look forward, are there any difficulties during cleaning?

Please, contact me for solutions,

cheers,

Cle (barthibarth@web.de).

Opinion: 1. Nice video mode. Produces the best mini clips I've seen
2. Quick to startup/shutdown
3. Good AF lamp
4. nice design

Problems: 1. low ISO (you can't take good pics at night)
2. red-eye reduction is totally wrong. Unless of course you aim the peoples eyes with the af lamp, or if they are looking directly at it.

Opinion: This is my first Digital Camera and Im very pleased with my selection, Its small enough to carry around in my pocket and one of my favorite features is the stitching of several photos together to make one panoramic view.

Problems: none so far

Opinion: Great camera, but not enough MPixel for propper printing.

It's certainly a wonderful camera with a unique design. I bought it 6 month ago and the handling is rather comfortable. Because of its size you are able to take it everywhere you want to. With a Canon-metal case, which is available for the Ixus, you dont have to be afraid about sand, dirt, etc.

Problems: For prints these 2 MP are not good enough. 9x13 is already a difficult format....trees or comparible objects with filigran structures.....forget it.

:-(
