Opinion: My FIRST Digital and it's Excellent. My photographer swore by Canon and she doesn't even use digital. So I bought this by a professional's suggestion. I just ordered it from Buydig.com for $574, it was delivered 10/12/04. Not bad for a not-released and valued at $699 camera. The camera seems to work best without using the zoom, unless you use manual settings. I like the fact that I could test the moving and still picture modes with just the provided 32Mb card. The quick guide was painless. Up and operational in minutes. The pictures come out very nice in AF mode. It beats the tail off of the CAMDIA C-60Zoom that the family owns. I like the positionable view screen and remote. Very handy for the family photos. Bought a 512Mb CF at Costco. I really enjoyed the video mode for small burst segments of family events. The hotshoe is great. The battery life is awesome. I took 160+ pics (no zoom) on one charge. (Suggestion: charge battery to FULL first time)

Problems: Flash overbright at closeup.
Utility doors too flimsy and breakable.
Lens cap a bit cumbersome, but minor.

Opinion: I have more questions, than anything else, to say.

1- Does it focus any better than the G3-G5,in low-light or indoor, that were awfull compared to the Rebel 300D ?.

2- How long does it take to focus ?

3- How grainy are the pics at high iso such as 400 ?

Opinion: The best prosumer camera for the money, but also for my use. I had a G5 and I think this is a really great upgrade for the already lucky Powershot G serie.
AF system works better and faster, even in low light conditions with the AF assist lamp; AE with nine point, new body and ergonomy, the 7.1 Mpixels CCD that gives excellent image quality and resolution with less CA and noise, with the same incredible fast lens. All this make of the G6 the best compact digital camera I ever used, and I think the best, or one of the, on the market.
Thanks Canon!

Opinion: I have had the camera about a month, having changed up from a POwershot G2.
The G6 us really superb. most noticeable plus points are.
Excellent interface for Manual, AV, TV and MF overides
Clear Screen
Smaller size
Better Battery Life (and I always thought the G2 was excellent)
Much faster save times to my F1 40x CF cards
Much Faster Startup and lens times
very useful Custom Modes
Much prefer the external charger to charge batteries out of the camera

All in all an excellent set of changes from the earlier G.

I looked seriously at the much bigger and more expensive Olympus 8080WZ, much more expensive the powerhot Pro 1 and at the more expensive Nikon 8700.

Nice one Canon

Problems: 2 very minor snags in the design..

AV/Power/USB flap occassional gets / caught and flipped up by clothing or the camera bag. As it is plastic it feels flimsy...

in my camera bag, the mode wheel on the back can get turned going in and out.

These are very Minor - and given the choice I would buy the G6 again - especially if it was black.
