Opinion: I bought this camera used on ebay for $95,it came with 3 cards
[2 128mb,1 256mb]3 bttys,all cords ,charger ,remote,leather case,and
manual.Works fine and takes great pictures. This camera is built like a tank.I've
been useing it mostly in the automatic mode but will be trying the other
modes .If one can pick one up for what i did it's a really great value.4 mp.is
ok if you don't crop to much and stay with 8 X10's as largest size.Myself I
usually print 5X7's so I'm fine. One of Canon's better cameras .I like the metal
body.Never did care much for plastic bodies. The swing out finder is a plus.
Problems: No real problems except camer is a little bulky .It's not a "pocket" camera .If
you don't mind it hanging around your neck it's a great camera.
Opinion: I bought this camera as it was the best I could afford at the time. After using it for 3 or 4 years I started to long for a new dslr. I did a lot of comparing an bought a Nikon d-80. And you know what?
When I compare the quality of the pictures and the ease of use the good old G2 holds up to the D80. Sure the d80 does a few things the G2 won't but all in all I'll change the D80 before I get rid of the G2. The camera is going with my wife to Vietnam for 4 weeks this summer and I know it will hold up and deliver great shots.
Problems: The AC/DC converter packed in last year and cost me $200 cdn to fix, but that occured after I slid my car seat back and crushed my camera breaking the filter that I had on the front of the lens. Other than that its been a champ and I expect it to hold up for a long time to come.
P.S. Money well spent.
Opinion: I have owned this camera for several years and now have a Pentax K100D and a Canon A710 IS. However, I picked up my G2 the other day to compare images. I must say that this camera takes some of the most sharpest and quality pictures of any camera I have ever used. It's a classic.
Problems: None.
Opinion: After over 85,000 shots from when I bought the camera in Sept 2002 to Dec 2004 when I bought my DSLR (Pentax IST*Ds). It was a workhorse for me and I more than made my money back in photo sales to newspapers and I can honestly say I have no complaints about the G2 although cosmetically it looks hagard it still works like it should has always done and, truth be told, the start up time is really a joke (relatively speaking).
Problems: After the fact....slow start up time ...but once it gets going...watch out :D
Opinion: I've used this camera for more than three years. I have taken nearly 10,000 picture with it, and have encountered virtually no problems. It has gotten wet a number of times, but the camera was not affected. Battery life is still surprisingly good given how much I've used this camera.
The picture quality can STILL be considered very good compared to most point and shoots today. The sharpness of the lens is fantastic, considering its size. At the price you can get this camera for on ebay nowadays, it is an astonishing value.
Problems: The screen, when flipped back onto the body, turns off, rather than inverting the image. This happened after about two years of moderate to heavy use. Otherwise, very durable and reliable.
Opinion: I have been using this camera for years and am very, very happy of it. I'm not surprised by all the very good comments I've read about it. I've taken all these pictures with it (except N°3, 12, 13, 16, 23, 24 & 25) : http://phogo.free.fr/bestof
Problems: Yes it's to slow ! To slow to get ready for a picture when you put it on. The other thing I don't like is the "Manual" focus : you have to press one button while you focus with another one, and what you see on the screen does not help much. You can't really see if its well focussed or not.
Opinion: I have been using this camera for years now. Later I bought a Nikon SLR and used it in parallel. Now that I am about to buy a new more compact camera to replace the G2 I start realizing how terrific it has been. Image quality is superb - better than the image quality of many of the latest models. Automatic mode is fantatstic. The only obvious slight disadvantage is it's size and weight.
Problems: none
Opinion: I am still using my Nikon SLR's for travel fotography and I bought this camera second hand to experiment with it at low cost. It has alll the functions of a good SLR. HOLY MARIE this "old" digital is realy fantastic. I still am astonished by the superb image quality, fantastic colours and sharpness. As to me it gives even better results than film. The negative point is that it is a bit slow for action fotography and the electronic viewfinder is not so clear in very sunny conditions. BUT GO FOR IT.
Problems: NONE
Opinion: Nice camera! :p
