My initial feeling about getting the G12 over a DSLR was one of 'settling' for a compact. When I came across one at Bestbuy for $379 in a recent trip to Michigan (new, unopened!), I couldn't resist so I pulled the trigger. It did not disappoint. DSLR-like controls and image quality that surpassed my expectations. An absolute no-brainer at this price point. Problems: Video capability so so, relative to other cameras, but camcorder calibre video is of low interest to me in a camera.

I has been 10 months now since I purchased my Canon G12, I am very impressed with its performance and build quality. I took this Camera overseas to Europe for 5 weeks and took many hundreds of photos in various situations from gloomy internal shots inside Castles to in the snow in Austria. Due to time restraints and the lack of a printed manual (It is available on the included CD) I mainly used the Camera on the auto setting. The G12's ability to handle difficult shots automatically is ...

As a musician, I understand the value of a great instument. The better the instrument, the better the result, especially with study and practice. As someone who is realitively new to photography, I recently upgraded from a Kodak ZD10 to the Canon G12. Wow, what a camera! I received many compliments on my photographs taken with the Kodak, but as my interest in photography has grown, I sought the advise of a couple photographers I know and they both recommeded the G12. After purchasing the ...

I have a normal cumbersome DSLR camera and two Nikon short prime lenses which I lug about infrequently because of the weight. The upshot is I haven't been spending as much time taking photos as I would like to because the bulk and weight makes it seem all too much trouble. I have wanted to take more photos on my tripod and thereby slow down and produce fewer snaps but more carefully created pin sharp photographs. My interests include landscape, portrait, street and night shots including ...

I like doing this is point form, so here we go: 1. Solid Build, very manly looking 2. Well-exposed images, versatile lens 3. Independent buttons for important functions like iso, EV 4. Cluttered layout around the 4-way controller, and the dial shouldn't be press-able 5. viewfinder a plus, but in reality rarely comes in helpful due to its inaccuracy and narrow FOV 6. electronic level does not work properly, even after recalibration: 7. Overall operation speed leaves room for improvement above ...

The G12 shows off it's rich Powershot legacy with a fully featured offering, sharp and reasonably fast lens, and excellent image quality. For a small sensor compact, no camera has the G12 beat, and the image quality at times rivals some DSLR APS-C sensors. Build quality and feature set are first rate. The tilt screen offers angles to photo opportunities that would be impossible for a standard screen. Stereo HD video is a plus. Without a doubt this is Canon's best Powershot to date and it ...
