Opinion: LOVE the manual settings. The only few changes I would make is the ability to have the flash off by defalt. I have been very pleased with how easy it was to learn the settings. I liked having the LCD screen and the viewfinder for outside use when the screen glared. I loved that I could add on lens. It out performed all my past Kodak easyshare cameras by far - especially indoors. I often use the burst capture and pet/sport setting. I like that it can use AA batteries.

Problems: plastic that holds battery cover door closed broke, even with careful use in just over 2 years.

Opinion: I have my 720is for just over a year now - and I just sent it in for repair. Why? Because I dropped it and cracked the screen. i debated whether to fix or replace and for the price of repairs I was not going to get as good a camera as this one. I've owned/used/borrowed several point-and-shoot cameras over the years and haven't had one as good as this - and I doubt I will find one - ever !!!

*Fits nicely into your hand and all buttons/selectors are an easy one-handed operation.
*Viewfinder - very nice - most pt&shoots nowadays don't have this essential feature.
*Image quality is is quite good plus the Image Stabilization is a handy plus. Even at high ISO the image is 'clean' - very little static.
*Video quality is quite good considering it's a pt&shoot.
*Uses AA and SD HC cards, easy to obtain items when you are on the road.
*Easy to read screen with info sidebars
*6X optical zoom - gotta like that !!!

Problems: *Flash is underwhelming
*Tripod socket is WAY left of center, therefore useless in any position other than horizontal.
*Curving of straight lines at periphery of the images - you can either compensate for this in editing software or crop.

un must

Problems: Pas de format 3/2 enregistré
Image trop petite sur l'écran pour le collage en mode panorama
Filtage du pied archi mal placé

Opinion: The build seems a bit poor but mine has survived about 8 months knocking around in my jacket - I don't use a case for it. Image quallity is more than good enough for press use. Battery life is fine but an actual "meter" would be good - even a crude one.

Problems: None at all.

Opinion: After two successful years and 5000+ pics with a A610
that I broke a few months ago, I bought this nice little
A720 as a replacement. As they share the same piece
of UI and have approximately the same featrues, I
expected a real no brainer.

Unfortunately, the A720 has been a strong
disappointment so far. I wish I could have my old A610
again.

Problems: - Battery life is a pity. The same batteries would last
300+ pix with A610. Now I have to take replacement
batteries after 50 pix.

- Flash recycle time is a real issue. I confirm up to 5-
6sec sometime.

Opinion: I got this for $100 so value for money is excellent. I have had Powershot models since the S10. This is a backup for my S80 as a carry around camera, and also as something that my young kids can use.

As a P&S, this is an excellent camera. It gives you full control (Auto, P, Av, Tv, and M) plus video, and all the extra stuff that you'll rarely use.

The Image Stabilization is a good feature. The power up and processing speed is very good.

Image quality is excellent, better than other at the same price level.

Problems: Annoyances:

- Mode switch (capture/review) is a sliding switch, which is awkward and hard to operate. I wish it's just a push button like the other Powershots.

- Changing from capture to review mode retracts the lens, which adds an additional delay if you want to start taking picture right away.

- In review mode, half-pressing the capture button won't switch the mode to capture mode (yeah, that annoying mode sliding switch again).

- No ISO button. It can be programmed to one button, but unlike the other Powershots I have used, once the button only takes you to select ISO mode, and you can't use the button to toggle through the different ISOs. What this means is you have to 1) go into the ISO setting first, then 2) select the ISO and 3) get out of the ISO (3rd step is not necessary to get the chosen ISO). In other Powershots, it's just pressing the ISO button, toggle through using the same button, and you're done.

- The flash button is on the 12 o'clock location (of the four buttons around the func/set) instead of on the 3 o'clock locations like the other Powershots I have -- inconsistent if you have other Powershots.

- The zoom switch is little harder to operate (compared to other Powershots).

Opinion: What a smart little thing ! Bought A720 for my wife, which did not like taking pictures with my large and heavy 40D.
Not too complex in use, very good picture quality (for this kind of camera). Large and bright LCD. Versatile zoom range.
In single word - superb !

Problems: Slow flash recovery

Opinion: This camera contains most of the features an amateur photographer may need, like 6x zoom, manual controls, IS, optical viewfinder, video quality, AA batteries. There are other aspects that are not so special, such as its somehow bulky size, lack of some information in the display, or the low pixel monitor, but in general, its advantages exceed its disadvantages by far.
It may be easily used as a decent general purpose camera, if somebody does not like to carry a lot of gear.
Picture quality is great, especially in daylight. It also enables its user to apply image settings in-camera, thus avoiding post-processing if he/she does not like to do so.

Problems: Problems: Weak flash, small sensor size resulting in noisy pictures in low light, low quality construction materials.

Tips: Treat it carefully, always carry an extra pair of recharged batteries, (a soft pouch is a good solution for these) and, if possible, try to use CHDK.

Opinion: This is a GREAT camera, and it's the smallest and lightest of the high-end powershots. Just buy it!

Here you'll find example shots (most of them are macro works with a Raynox DCR-250 addon lens):

Problems: Problems are all *minor*, just reporting them as you're not finding them on other reviews:
- tripod screw point is not centered and it's made of plastic which could wear out with heavy use
- flash is difficult to use on very near macro shots, you'll have to use some tricks (like white things to diffuse the light)
- continuous shoot mode hasn't continuos-auto-focus, and also it is difficult to use as the lcd doesn't remain "live" after the first shot. You'll have to use the eye viewfinder.
- You'll lose the eye viewfinder and autofocus light when you use an adapter tube with a lens hood. I noticed that with lens hoods image quality increases.
- no neck strap... you'll have only a tiny hand strap
