Opinion: This camera has been very easy for me to use as an amatuer. In fact, it has been so simple that I have
become interested in getting a camera with more advanced features. I really like the panoramic stitch feature- I
use it for creating QTVR and panoramic images for real estat
Problems: None
Opinion: Entirely satisfactory! Image colors are excellent. I've found the camera especially useful for interior shots (I'm house hunting at the moment) - the colors are warm but accurate. the 28mm equivalent lens is extremely useful for this purpose.
In summary, I've taken more pictures with this camera than I have with my conventional cameras recently. The image quality is excellent up to 6*4 or even 5*7, the colors are beautiful. The camera is very simple to operate, and it's small size and light weight mean I take it everywhere.
I like the fact that it operates pretty much like a traditional P&S camera. The single biggest imnprovement IMO would be to speed up operation, e.g. turn on time, AF time.
Highly recommended!
Problems: Had to return the first two cameras - one had an inoperable AF assist light, the other developed strange noises when autofocusing. The third is a charm!
Opinion: Good points are well documented (colour balance, lens/sharpness, construction, size, LCD quality). I find it slow, clunky and awkward to use though - worse than my last camera (Oly D220-L). Awkward to hold too (shiny, square). Overexposes highlights and generally not as much fun as it could be. Wide lens is very good to have, but S10's firmware update may worth having. I'd wait for that. Cardreader is a must-have. Download software is awful.
Opinion: Nice little camera and fun to use. Very good battery life with the NiMH. UNBELIEVABLY good construction - dropped the camera off the THIRD story of a building site onto rocks and gravel below - without the case - and aside from a few unfortunate cosmetic dents, it works perfectly! Lenses, mechanicals, everything is as if the impact never occurred.
Problems: A tendency to overexpose almost everything. I use EV compensation all the time; anywhere from -1/3 to -2/3. Requires lots of LCD use since I don't trust the metering in auto point-and-shoot mode. Hopefully, the new S10 will fix this, and give you 2 MP besides. Might be worth waiting for, if you can afford the extra $$. Otherwise, for a street price of $450 or so, I recommend this camera.
