Opinion: A neatly designed camera that's a good, overall package for someone looking to learn the basics of digital photography, but who isn't too fussed with adjusting things manually. Handy set up of batteries and memory card in one place - Movie function adds an extra dimension, but is difficult to play around with without specific software as it's in AVI format.

Problems: On/Off system fails faster than it should due to constant sliding. Shutter lag is incredibly great and has resulted in many photos being missed - even with part compression. Viewfinder is out of line with actual lens, thus making it untrustworthy in image composition. Still to Video switch is easily slipped from one to the other within a case.

Opinion: Bought aN A 310 for easy carry. It 's a light weigh camera with 7 OZ. Easy to handle. It's a very basic camera without zoom. Battery life is normal after I purchase the rechargeable batteries(2000 ma).

Picture quality is above average for this price of the camera. The focus for close up is faster than that of my G3. Produce sharp pictures. Color is rich.

So it is a cheap carry around basic camera. Good for travel if your demand is not that high.

Problems: It eats lots of conventional battery. Must use rechargeable battery. No optical zoom. I got mine at Circit City for $ 130 ( display model). But has not found any problem yet.

Opinion: Great cam for the n00b to digital cams. However, compared to the other cams that Canon makes this doesnt even deserve the name Canon. Its more like a Kodak than a Canon.

Problems: Should have added $50 to the price and put an optical zoom to the cam. 3.2 mp with no optical for $250 CDN... waste of money. The olympus D540 is a better value and has the same image quality.

Opinion: Sample Images:

(Note that the images have been automatically re-adjusted in quality by the hosting site to reduce the file size. The originals are even better in quality)

I bought A300's successor A310 which inherits most of its features from A300. I would say that this camera has a sound set of features and offers a very impressive picture quality at its price. If you are on a tight budget, I will recommend this camera otherwise A75 provides some additional good features at a little extra cost. Following are the pros and cons I observed in this camera:

Pros:
1. Very good picture quality: colors, sharpness, lighting control etc. are excellent. The camera does most of the work for you.
2. Automatic settings performance, including white balance is very good. Occasionally you may need to adjust exposure compensation factor.
3. Only two AA size batteries required whereas A75 requires four batteries.
4. Slow synchro (night scene) mode is a very nice feature. Since the flash range is not enough, you will frequently need to enable this feature while taking pictures indoors or at night. But it only works well with a tripod. Also the colors captured in slow synchro mode look more natural as compared to flash-only setting. However, the shutter speed in this mode is quite slow which might give a blurry look if the subject(s) move.

Cons:
1. I have also noticed the blurriness of images at the corners and edges
2. High noise at higher ISO settings. No visible noise at ISO 50; Hardly noticeable noise at ISO 100; the image quality is unacceptable at IS0 200 and above
3. Very short flash range: Just 2 meters! (A75 offers 4m flash range)
4. Occasionally unable to autofocus in dim light
5. Trouble seeing the LCD screen in bright environments such as sunlight
6. Discrepancy between the viewfinder view and the LCD screen. LCD always shows a larger image than what is visible in viewfinder
7. Very high battery consumption. Definitely requires use of NiMH batteries.
8. Startup time and initial flash charging time is long.
9. The automatic focusing system would not always point the AF frame to the desired subject, however, the pictures come out to be perfect.
10. The digital zoom performance is pathetic. I would recommend canon to take this feature off this camera as it is good for nothing.
11. The movie - pic mode toggle switch is very annoying as it sometimes gets accidentally turned on
12. Indoor pictures taken in flash are usually under-exposed even if the subject is within the 2m range.
13. No option to lock the exposure. The work-around is to take a shot in the stitch-assist mode to lock the exposure settings to the first shot.
14. Not suitable for night-photography, as the max shutter speed is only 1 sec and no manual control over aperture and shutter settings is given
15. The tripod slot is not in the center which inhibits the use of micro-tripods coz they are unable to balance the camera.

Conclusion:
If you are on a tight budget and / or you prefer using automatic settings, then this camera is ideal for you. If you want to have more manual control over settings like aperture, shutter speed, focus and if you require zoom then A75 is preferable, however at an extra cost. As far as the picture quality is concerned, I think this camera does not lag behind after all it’s a canon. If you intend to use this camera mostly indoors or at night, then I wont recommend this camera because its flash range is too small, which is a very important aspect that I overlooked before buying this camera.

Problems: Not so far; the camera fulfills whats given in the specs.

Opinion: For a novice , this is a great starter! has all the goodies most cameras have and I can keep around for a point and shoot when my needs become more advanced. Canon is a solid company and this is a solid little entry level camera , highly recommed for newbies and for those who just want to take quickies!

Problems: no optical zoom. This camera would be rated 5 across the board if it had optical zoom.

Opinion: The Canon A310 takes great looking pics...however, it is slow to reset between shots and the batteries seems to drain too quickly.

Opinion: Recently purchased my A310, then run sample photos. Results turned out as expected. First thing noticed was the lack of dials to turn.

Nearly all adjustments/changes are made with the omni-selector button on the back. The flash card & battery compartments are in located under one door.

In auto mode, the A310 produces sharp pictures, inside & outdoors. The flash is limited to 7 ft, but remember this isn't a big-buck camera. Macro results are very pleasing, with the flash adjusting quite well, up to 8 inches. Closer than that, the photos were oversaturated. In the manual mode, the camera is at its best, allowing most adjustments, but not focus.

Considering the cost, Canon has produced a winner. As with any digi-cam, use good rechargeable batteries, and purchase a 128 mb or higher compact flash card.

This is a good ''pocketable'' camera, designed for ease of use, great for the whole family, and as a second for your primary high-priced camera.

The A310 is a ''fun'' camera to vacation with, or take on those special trips to the zoo, park, or whatever, because of its point-an-shoot features a kid could use.

I paid $132.00, but noticed the prices are changing daily. Shop around, biggest advantage may be in shipping costs, as camera costs between major online resellers are fairly price consistant for the camera. Found best deals at Buy.com & NewEgg.com.......

Problems: Only problems, or dislikes, was the short 7 ft flash range, lack of a video out port, and wished for more adjustments in the auto mode.
