Opinion: I've had my A-10 almost 2 years. I have used it under a lot of different conditions. I find the picture quality to be good and the features are great. I have had no major problems with this camera. I take it with me as a back up camera to my 35mm SLR. This was my 2nd digital camera.
Good quality and photographs for the money.
Problems: No real problems.. It is a bit hard on batteries. You need to make sure to carry extra batteries with you.
Opinion: the A10 is not mine but i got to use it continously for 1week on a trip abroad. construction of camera is good looks like an ordinary 35mm auto-focus camera. features are just ok, more or less not too complicated and not too simple either. image quality i have no complaints because most of the shots that i got happened only after taking time in composing it. but this camera is also great for taking snapshots (fast shots). this camera is very easy to use because after the second day of my trip i already more or less mastered most but not all of the necessary features in order for me to take good shots. a good value for money. you have to buy it in order to really appreciate it.
Problems: only one minor problem: POWER! you have to bring along MANY PIECES OF AA size batteries. this is the equation: 5x128mb Compact Flash Cards = 20pcs. AA alkaline batteries. it is a good decision to buy NiMH batteries because it is the best way to save money.
Opinion: The Canon PowerShot A10 is indicated only for beginner photographers. The quality of the images is good but not in low-light conditions. Very easy to use.
Problems: - Image quality in low light conditions
- Macro is unfocused
- Manual functions very limited.
Opinion: Excelent bargain camera for beginners or web publishers. Actually, it's the old-fasioned low-end with a current price (in Europe) at about 300 EUR or less. By my experience, there's an uncompetitive earn/cost ration, good optics and easy to use cabinet. For the future upgrade, I'm mostly made-up to stay further in this Canon's PowesShot line...
For your view, I've published my very first steps with my camera at:
http://www.angelfire.com/home/vj/
Problems: I miss software red-eye reduction feature (or I've got old version on my PC?). Camera is quite robust and heavy (4 standard AA rechargable batteries, those replacement requires a bit of experience ;-)). Less other features (I miss mostly variable ISO speed) in comparison with any small "photo/computer" hybrids or electronic toys...
Opinion: After 8 months of use I'm still very happy with this camera. It really takes great pictures. By far better then I expected. You won't ever need better photos for digital viewing. I get photos from friends online and don't like I have to scroll up and down left and right on oversize photos. And sometimes quality is nowhere compared to my A10.
I learned a lot about photographing with this camera. I think it has quite a few features and took me this 8 months to learn all gradually. Now I want to upgrade but I'm in trouble getting a camera being considerably better. Do I need better than 3x zoom? Occasionally. Do I need larger photos on screen? No. Do I need better/larger printouts? Maybe. I've even created 8*10 in printouts, and they look nice on the wall. If you go closer you see the pictures a little blur. Then comparing 4*5 printouts to 35 mm SLRs, the latter still win. If you don't compare you think the photos are perfect. The most visible blur happens on tree photos with thousands of leaves - the contours are not sharp at all. (This is what you expect anyway.)
The only reason I want to upgrade is that I can make better then ever photos with this camera and now I want to hang my own sharp 8*10 photos on the wall. It still can take months to see if a $500-like investment worth the better printouts - currently I don't think so and feel the $190 I spent on this camera was a great value for money.
Problems: Printouts could be sharper - obviously because of low megapixel.
Not for car race shooting...
Sometimes doesn't find the focus in low light conditions.
And yes, you want at least a 64 MB card and 2 NiMH battery packs for the camera.
Opinion: I would say that this is about the best camera you can get for your money. It has loads of features for the price. I have taken hundreds of pictures since I got it a few months ago, I have even made some really interesting pictures by adjusting the WB and Exposure. I'm sure that anyone who gets this camera will be more than satisfied.
Problems: I haven't come across any major problems yet. One thing is... make sure to get rechargable batteries, like any digital camera this one eats up batteries really fast.
Opinion: Very good images for it's class. look and feel like a real camera. construction is solid. if u r looking to snap quick shots, this is the one as it has very quick shot to shot time. images comparable to 2.0 MP cameras of other brands. good low lighting images and powerful flash ( more than 10ft. ) nowadays hv software to edit images and u don't need real high MP cameras to do the job. Just one that can capture sharp images and this canon a10 does the job well...
Problems: as often, go get a set of rechargeble batteries and a 64MB CF card and u are all set...
Opinion: I bought this camera mainly due to the reviews of it I found here. I LOVE THIS CAMERA! Its so easy to use and the picture quality is wonderful.
Problems: None.
Opinion: I am a digital beginer, and I'm looking for a ( canon A-10) to begin with. If anyone out there has one for sale please contact me at muajmoo@aol.com. Locate in the U.S.
