I've had many cameras over many years and this is the best so far. Well built, great user interface, especially the quick navi system (only gripe is the top plate buttons - ISO, Drive Mode and WB - don't fall to hand with the camera to your eye. Not a big issue but I have to look to use them). DRO is quite amazing - changes how you feel about jpg vs. raw (I'm still torn between the two!) Firmware v4 sorts out early noise and over-reduction issues, IQ is now very good (though I prefer the ...

I switched from a Nikon D300, with all the gadgets to the A700 with the equivalent equipment. Surprise - the switch was fairly easy, quick review of the manual, added the battery grip, already comes with a remote, did the V4 firmware upgrade to have the ability to turn noise reduction off. Side by side images, of my local favorite showed no visible difference in the image and this camera works seamlessly with the mac and adobe software. Very impressive. Overall performance and quality is ...

Upgraded to my A700 from my KM 5D. I love this camera! It works great with all my minolta lenses and I like the 5fps shooting, with a fast card I'm never waiting around. Startup is very fast and I don't have any dust issues - I have had it for 9 months. Since V4 Firmware you can put my image quality rating to a 5. I think for the money this is the best camera you can get but to be honest in this price range there are no bad cameras. Battery life is superb. Problems: I'd like a custom self ...

Moved up from the A100. Wow !. This fine machine is an all around winner. I guess I really won't understand firmware V4.0 as It came out the day I picked it up and put it on. Wins on user interface , build, size, features (DRO and SSS) and of course takes great shots. Highly recommended! Problems: None

I've had this camera for half a year now, and came from the A100 and Minolta 7D. Overall I think the camera is excellent, produces great high resolution RAW images and handles very well, and is very responsive. Autofocus screw drive motor is snappy, much better than the a100 or 7D. With firmware v4, RAW images are even better and HDR bracketing is possible, which really improved my impression of this camera. Wireless flash is awesome too, and very easy to use - just switch to MR1, pull off ...

The AF could be more precisely. The Body is nice, more sealing would be great. Problems: none

After trying out the Canon 40D for 2 weeks and the Nikon D300 for a month, I decided to try out the a700 for comparison and I was blown away. It's very much a D300 without the Nikon branding and I saved a lot of money in the process. Just an amazing photographic tool. Problems: None with the camera itself but I'm finding the Sony lens line-up to be short and hoping that they will quickly expand their lens portfolio.

Very fast Autofocus, excellent ISO performance and handling means that I now am able to further explore my hobby. I am now taking pictures that were simply impossible before - ISO 3200, 1/4sec, f1.4! Sony's ever increasing lens, flash and accessories mean that there is much better support than in the KM days.

A FREE color temperature analyzer included (which would cost $1,200 separately)! As I describe below, there is a little discussed feature that allows you to set the white balance for the ambient light practically perfectly. I have had my Sony Alpha 700 for about six weeks now, have used it extensively on a vacation, and have tried most of the features. I'm impressed with: - the solid "feel" of the camera build - the 5 frames per second continuous shooting until the card is full (many other ...
