This is the best camera Sony has ever produced in my opinion from a value-for-your-dollar standpoint. A very capable, reasonably well-built camera with excellent ergonomics. It produces crisp, well-exposed images in most lighting conditions. Sony's full frame SLRs (850/900), while very good, are very overpriced considering: 1. the slow continuous drive speeds. 2. low light performance/jpeg NR artifacts. Sony's SLTs are fast but I'm not a fan of electronic viewfinders at all. I would have ...

This is one of the best cameras out there. I was going to buy a Canon 7D but when I tested them, the Sony won hands down! It is so easy to use and has all of the features you need to take professional pictures. Having easy menus makes a real difference when you are out there working under pressure. The anti-shake being built into the camera makes a world of difference. The others charge extra for this feature to be put into the lens. With the a700, all lenses are stabilized. The color this ...

Sony to Canon, boy did I make a mistake!!! My wife started a Canvas printing business and bought two Epson printers, 9880 & a 7880. We bought a camera for people who wanted us to take their portraits and I chose the Sony A700 with a 24-70mm F.2.8 Zeiss. Everybody I knew said I was made and that Sony was crap. After 2 years with the Sony, I finally switched to a Canon 7D with a 24-70mm L lens. READ THIS: the build quality of the Canon is rubbish! the Build Quality of the lens is rubbish and I ...

I am a professional photographer and after many years of reading user reviews on DP Review, this is the first time I have ever contributed, and would like to share my experiences of using the Sony Alpha 700. I had one of the first A700s to arrive in Australia and was using it for commercial, architectural jobs, events and weddings before it was released and couldn't believe how good it was when using the Zeiss lenses, particularly the skin tones. . they are amazing, better than my previous D ...

For pirinchov: I can not give this camera only 1 star to compensate your rating because I had it in hand an a friend uses it. Its a good cam. I do not understand, why you give ALL other brands a bad rating. Are you frustrated or paid by Sony?

Even if it a 2 years old camera, I still cannot find a better one! The handling is just fantastic. Feels like a tank!

Bought this camera in the end of March 2009 as an upgrade to my A300. Absolutely love it for the size and build and it is even more comfortable with the vertical grip. Images by default are slightly softer compared to my a300 but that is a CCD vs CMOS thing. Would have loved to have lens micro adjust like in the A900 and competitor D300. LiveView would have been nice to has as well for those macro moments! Problems: So far all is good at almost 20k shots. Still looks like the day I bought it.

I bought this camera at first release - up from Dynax 7D. I use the vertical grip and with this it is a fantastic setup. It is easy to use with a well thought out menu system. Picture quality is really good - especially RAW. With it, I bought the Carl Zeiss 16-80mm zoom lens. This really shows the camera off to its best. The images are so sharp it's more than I expected. Overall, it's a proper camera buff's camera. Live View? - dont need it, its quick to review pics via histogram or via the ...

Upgraded from a100 to the a700 in June 2008. V4 firmware upgrade late last year has helped make this DSLR a gem. Compatability with Konica Minolta lenses, in camera stabilisation, heaps of PRO features and intuitive user interface also make the a700 great value for money. The optional vertical grip is great! Very happy indeed! Problems: Initially the a700 was too noisy in low light using 400+ ISO settings but V4 firmware has fixed this.
