I have to dig back to 1986, and a ContaxRTS11 with Zeiss 50mm1.7 for a comparison to this lens. In brief, it's SHARP. A little more detail? Very well made (tho not waterproof...why Sigma?) Ultra fast focus, precise and accurate on the D610. Sturdy, attractive but mostly just sharp. Very very sharp. It also has (in combo with Nikon's 24mp sensor anyway) a beautiful 3D quality to the images...'in focus' areas just seem to pop into being. Colour is excellent. Detail amazing. For the best ...

Everything said about this lens is true. It's great. (incidentally the below confirmed on zero'd d810 and df) The focusing lookup tables (?) don't seem to be very accurate - despite the proof the PDAF is an open system... Consistently front focuses to +18 AF fine tune at closest focusing distance (0.3m). Requires +17 at 0.4m, and +16 at 0.6m. Needs +13 at 1m - 10m, and +10 at 10m - 30m. It is zero at infinity. The USB dock can provide correction for some of these focusing distances - however ...

I'd give this lens 5 stars for sure if it AF'd perfectly. Unfortunately, I get occasional AF misses. I've done the best I can to tune the lens (have the Sigma dock), but it still misses sometimes.

I wasn't in love with this lens at first... until I learned how to use it better.  At first I thought it was kinda bulky, I couldn't always get things in focus and there was significant vignetting at 1.4. Once I realized how thin the DOF was at 1.4 on my 6d, I switched to using 1.6 more often... I use AI servo focusing a lot because my subjects often move, and I make sure to select the focus point I want (no focus and recompose at 1.6 on this one) the lens is incredible. Images have ...

I ordered to test this lens with skepticism on my D810, and instead of testing it I decided to keep it! The following 35mm lenses I didn't want to waste my time on, because they were both way more expensive and less performing based on DXOMark test results... Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED Carl Zeiss Distagon T 35mm f/1.4 ZF2 Nikon Samyang 35mm F1.4 AS UMC Nikon The following two lenses disappointed me very much after I tested them throughout my last weekend, because of their price point & ...

Having shot this lens extensively for a week, this lens is great! It is surprisingly sharp at f1.4 with good bokeh and well-controlled CA. I shoot it extensively on my D800, almost always at f1.4 and it never fails to impress. Build quality is exceptional. The machined polished metal mount extends into the body making a very impressive first impression. The main barrel (and filter threads) are plastic, but the whole package feels high quality. Adding an extension tube and shooting at f11 ...

i have the 35mm Art and have a canon 70D and a 5D Mark III. on both cameras it is ridiculously sharp. even people that don't know diddly squat about photography compliment the sharpness of the photos i take with that lens. Now the bad part... the Sigma USB dock is not an option. it is a MUST!!! when i first started using this lens the front-focus was terrible. the photos were not usable. only after doing a firmware update did the lens start functioning properly. so there it is, the secret to ...

I have bought this lens (1. copy) two weeks ago. Tried to get sharp results with the middle focus point, not possible. Sent the lens together with D800e to Sigma for adjusting focus problem. Firts shots were ok, testing with D600 no sharp result. I changed the lens in my shop and the results were sharp at the beginning. Especially in low light or artificail light even with flash or tripod the results were not consistent. After testing again with D800e I was at the end of my patience and gave ...

My purchase of this lens virtually coincided with the acquisition of a used Canon 5D. I had passed on the 5D Mk II I bought a few of years ago to my partner when I bought the 1D MkIII and gained her 40D which I thought would make a good backup. I found missed the full frame camera, especially with the 12-24mm lens and the used Mk1 was cheap enough for me to justify yet another camera. On a trip to the Brooklands Museum I decided to take just the 5D and the new 35mm F1.4 Sigma. I'm glad I did. ...
