I have just bought a 2nd hand 'Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC EX' lens that's in perfect condition except the seller lost the lens hood and the front lens cap. I can get a common 62mm lens cap on eBay for 1$ which is fine. But I cant find a 3rd party "click-in" hood like the sigma brand one anywhere. The proper hood for the lens to buy on eBay is 33$+ which is crazy for a piece of plastic. All 3rd party hoods are "screw in" which are not what I want. Does anyone know somewhere online to get the proper...

I have a Canon 70D (1.6x Crop sensor) and got a Canon 50mm 1.8 II as my first lens. I love the 50mm’s ability for portrait and bokeh and low light etc. But I found it was pretty limited and I needed a standard zoom lens for everyday/trips etc. I’ve come across an offer for a used ‘Sigma 30mm f1.4 EX DC HSM’ for €120 (it’s about €300 new in shops). A pretty good deal assuming it’s in good condition. I’m wondering if it’s worth getting it as an upgrade from my 50mm 1.8 II and selling on the...

Hey, this question probably pops up a lot but I was wondering how DX users feel, or FX (60mm Micro 2.8 vs 50mm 1.8) I am selling my awesome 50mm 1.8D lens that gives a nice bokeh effect because I felt the focal length was too long for a walking lens. Taking it to the park gave me a lot of limitations trying to compose my shots. This lens's FOV is also too narrow because I want to be able to do street photography. The 18-105mm kit lens that came with my D7000 is a decent general-purpose that...

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster. Nice to find you all, I have a Canon 5D, an EF 85mm f1.8, an EF 28-70mm f2.8L and an EF 17-40 F4L. I am generally very satisfied with my gear, knowing full well that in this particular case I am the limiting factor, not them. However, I do feel that my camera is pretty old now, and even though picture quality is still excellent, I do wish I could have something more modern. I shoot mostly landscapes and portraits but I would like to expand in street. I...

hi everyone I am looking for a 'normal prime' for my SLT and was wondering if anyone has done a bit more research in the mid-low cost range. I bought a 35mm sony (SAL35F18.AE) and I'm not very happy with what it does. I was wondering if the 30mm sigma 1.4 was any better or anything else out there is good. thanks for your views

Hi everybody, I got a second hand Sigma 30mm f1.4 which is in good shape except one minor problem: it squeaks like a seal when focusing and hunts quite a bit because the friction of the focussing mechanism causes stick-slip effects. I can feel the friction is higher that it should be when I focus manually. In good light the focusing work better simply because the motor works harder. Still focus is a bit of hit and miss. Now I had a similar problem with a sigma 50-500mm of which the af motor...

I am a new owner of a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC lens and I am trying to figure out its performance right now. I am aware that a lot of people who accuse their Sigmas of having front/back-focusing problems are actually witnessing a camera body calibration problem in phase detection autofocusing and only noticed it with the Sigma because its shallow DOF at f/1.4 exposes camera calibration issues much more than standard aperture lenses do. I decided to test my new lens on my Rebel t4i and I’m a...

Hello Everyone,I posted a similar thread on another forum but haven't gotten a response.  I'll try to keep this one brief and to the point.I bought a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 lens a couple weeks ago, and after taking some basic test shots of my kids and dogs around the house at f/1.4 - 2.0, I'm not getting the same razor sharp results that I saw on a lot of the sample pictures people posted using their Sigma 30mm.  I understand it won't be super sharp all the way across when it's wide open, but mine...

I have a crop sensor 4ti and looking at Sigma's 30mm 1.4 The 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM has been out for years and seems well loved. They just announced an update to this 30mm F1.4 DC HSM. I think the EX means it will work on crop sensor or FF and I like that flexibility though I have no near term goals of going FF. My question is if this is worth the wait, anyone have any sense for this. The price has dropped on the existing 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM on Adorama and thats a good discount...unless the...
