Question for Merrill users about SPP Auto review. I have had a DP2 for years and thought I knew my way around SPP. Just unwrapped my new DP2M today and trying first shots (RAW). My setup in camera is -2 sharpness which shows when the image loads at X3F setting in SPP 5.5.3 (with "brighter fonts" mod): When I click on "Auto" after about 10 or more seconds the sharpness sets to 0.0 and the exposure adjusts. No other sliders move. I've now tried this with a few shots and in each case the...

Hey, I'm looking for a camera which I could have with me more often than the large DSLR.  I want this camera mostly for portraits (let's say 50% of the uses), random day-to-day snapshots (30-40%) and possible street photography (10-20%). I love bokeh and I really need it :) My perfect fixed lens in FULL FRAME would be probably fast 40mm so I can 1) get bokeh, 2) shoot environmental portraits 3) do street photography. But with smaller sensors the bokeh part gets tricky.  I was basically...

I know, this has been done to death and no, I'm not too lazy to use the search function. I'm coming to the DP2-Merrill party late after over 4 years with the original DP2. At current prices it was just too good to ignore. Camera arrives in a few weeks (already in the house but I have to wait for Birthday) but amongst the various accessories I'm putting together, it is clear from reviews that I'll need a couple of spare batteries at least. My question for UK residents is: has anyone tried the...

Hi Folks, would one of the older (and now inexpensive) DP2, 2s, or 2x models be a good way to experiment with the benefits of the foveon sensor for black and white work? I am returning to b&w more and more, and the Leica Monochrom is a bit (big bit) beyond the budget. My use:  architecture, urban decay, urban, tripod-mounted when possible.  Any suggestions on the Sigmas?  Thanks! --The Kodachromeguy

A few months ago, I bought a used DP2 and have been very pleased with my results- photos shared on screen with Flickr, and also prints on 8.5 x 11" paper with print area about 6 x 9. I mean very pleased! A few weeks ago, I bought a used DP2M and am now considering going back to the DP2.  It seems to me, and here is my question, that the main advantage of the Merrill version is the larger pixel size, with the opportunity for cropping.  The handling is somewhat improved, but I really learned to...

I'm coming from a Ricoh GR and Oly EM5. I am used to adding sharpening. My first impression with my DP2 is that any addition is too much. Is that the feeling of those with more experience of the DPx range? Tony

Sorry to have wasted everyone's time on the wrong thread. It is the DP3 Merrill that I want to convert using Qimage. According to this list the DP1 and DP2 will work with DCRaw that is used within Qimage. http://www.cybercom.net/~dcoffin/dcraw/ If there was a DP3 Merrill raw file that I could download from the Sigma site I could test it myself. I am amazed of the quality I can get out of my recently acquired DP2M and DP3M and am considering springing for one of the SD1 with 17-50mm f:2.8 combos which is so very reasonably priced here in Euroland at the moment instead of adding a DP1M. Unfortunately there does not seem to be anywhere to try them out here in Brussels. Due to shaky hands I have decided not to use the DPxMs handheld but only on a tripod. So I am a bit concerned about my ability to use the SD1 handheld. 1) Has anybody...
