Thoughts on Mac Software or Workflow? I have 4 working hard drives that contain my entire photo library. They range in size from 2TB to 3TB I purchased two 4 TB G-Drives, one to keep on site, one to store off site, to hold all the data from the working drives, that I plan to rotate on/off site weekly. I do have off-site storage with Photoshelter - but only for final client TIFF files not DNGs or edited RAW files. I would like an automated solution to back up these drives. I've looked at...

Hi, all,To be more exact, on an Apple MacBook Pro 15" laptop, working in iPhoto 9, how big is the image on the laptop screen when I press 1? How big is it when I press 2?In other words I am trying to find out how large, measured in inches, say 8x10 or 11x14, etc,. this image would be if considered as a transparency without the cutoff imposed by the edges of the computer screen. One underlying reason is that I have a camera that is very sharp at a setting of 1, and acceptably sharp at a setting...

Hi all, for the last 2 weeks I've been filling my head with data regarding brands and equipment. It's really painful...and I'm finding myself tempted to give up with the decision of a new camera completely (despairing, I know). If anyone could give me solid, informed advice regarding my needs, I'd be eternally grateful. What I value / plan to do with photography:1. I value landscape/nature shots, macro shots (love textures, for example barks and fungi) and some people/portrait shots in that...

I've been impressed by the quality of reviews I found here tonight. So I thought I would ask you the question that has brought me here. It's probably a bit unusual.I want to monitor and photograph microfilm. I have three requirements in a camera (besides lowest price possible!)(1) Must output live to my HDTV screen at 1080 by 1920. I suppose it could go through computer to do this, but direct out seems "fastest" option. By this, I mean that I want to see the picture--read the microfilm...

First time poster and been over 20 years since I've used an SLR.I have an old 1980's Pentax MG with unknown (maybe Tamron) telephoto lens and have tried placing it on the new(ish) K-r and while it appears to physically fit, doesn't seem to be just point and click in that pressing the shutter does not take a photo. Is there some setting required to use the old lens on the newer digital camera?

Hi, I have my V1 coming next Monday from B&H.  My understanding is that it comes with View NX2 and I wonder if that is adequate or if I need Capture NX2 for raw conversion and better tools for editing.  I should say that I am an old Nikon user (many Coolpixes, from the 995 to the 7100) and also the D70 and D50 DSLRs.  (My newer DSLR is a Pentax K-r but my Nikon DSLRs are still in use, but all my lenses are older non-VR lenses, D, G, and the kit lenses of the time.)    At the time I got my...

I need to provide a little background so you can help me.  I'm a guy for whom photography is a hobby.  I take pictures of birthdays, bugs, pretty flowers, sunsets, etc.  My stepson plays (American) football.  Taking pictures at his games has turned into a regular pasttime.  High school games were always at night and it was always impossible to get a good picture.  He's attending a D3 college now and games are early afternoon.  The light is SO much better.  However, there is an occasional...

I have two zoom lenses with the above body, a smc pentax dal 50 to 200 mm zoom  and a 18 - 55 zoom, same make.Dont know much about cameras to be honest.I am going off to Morroco at Xmas. Want to get a lens hood. Will one do for both of the zooms above. If so can anyone recommend one for conditions I might encounter, for example rain and desert dust and where I might source it.

The more I look into AF speed, it seems apparent that accuracy and less than ideal conditions are more important to me than ideal condition speed tests. I need to focus on moving kids, indoor low house lighting, etc. Anyone know which locks on better, or are they about equal? Better is more consistent in these tough conditions and focusing on the right subject, not always faster. I assume the new k-511 beats them both? My K-r is terrible at this stuff.
