When viewing a photo is there an amount of magnification that is more or less the same as a 100% crop?

I'm on the eve of purchasing my first DSLR, a Pentax K-30 with the 18-55m WR kit lens. I would like to complement this with a prime lens. I've narrowed it down to a Pentax DA 50mm f1.8 or Rokinon 85mm f1.4. The main use will be a general purpose carry around with an emphasis on outdoors. I'm comfortable with manual focusing. Both seem to get good reviews, so I'm more interested on how they perform on this specific camera and which will be more versatile for everyday shooting and occasional...

Hi I'm planning to buy a new k-30. Now my question is should I buy now or will the prices drop after the new announcements. I can get the camera including the WR kit lens for approximately 700 euro (tax included). How far can I expect the prices to fall? Or should I buy in June before the cash-back campaign that give about 70 euro run out?

I'm still enjoying my K-r since I got it a couple of years ago.  Probably a few miles left on it yet.  I've been wondering though, with the newer models (K5II, K-30, K-50 etc.) have Pentax bothered to enter the Newfoundland Standard Time zone as an option in the setup?  This time zone is not available on the K-r and I'm forced to use Atlantic Time Zone (i.e. Halifax. Nova Scotia). Newfoundland Standard Time is UTC -3.30. Just curious... ____________________Andrew J. BlundonParadise NL Canada

Hey there! I started reading through the DPR forums some weeks ago and I am quite amazed by the body of knowledge offered, the very nice pictures posted and the at times furious discussions. :) As I just registered I wanted to post straight away. Although the question might not be too special, I hope that I am not boring you. I started shooting with a Canon Digital IXUS 4 (as it was called here in Germany) about ten years ago. I managed to get some quite decent shots with it. About three...

I've looked on eBay for a remote shutter release, and I've noticed that the Pentax models mentioned are inconsistent. So, my question: Is the K30 remote shutter release same as other Pentax models, i.e., will a remote for the K10D also work on the K30? Thanks, Greg

Two questions for k-30 users: 1) How is Depth of field control (button) implemented and is it possible to assign DOF and AF to different buttons? 2) Does the mirror flip when pressing DOF button while using a K or M series lens? Thanks --Ask not what your camera can do for you, but what you can do for your camerahttp://www.fluidr.com/photos/gs-photos

I'm quite attracted to the K30. What would be a good quality zoom f2.8 ( up until 50-70 mm) for it ? Thank you
