I've been on DPR for a little over a month. I'm new to digital photography. I bought my 1st camera 37 years ago. I had an OM-1N and OM-2N and some lenses. Also did darkroom stuff, including the Zone System. I recently bought a Pentax K-3 for myself and my son (in college).  I have entered a few challenges so far and did OK in two. I was recently DQed from one because I did not notice the size limitation. I was able to resize the JPG with LightRoom and re-enter the challenge. No big deal. I...

Hello to all Pentaxians, I have a recurrent problem with my DNG files when shooting images that have lot of red in them, especially sunsets/sunrises. To keep it simple: - Pentax K-3, I shoot only RAW DNG, AdobeRGB, Bright Color Profile. - I use Camera RAW (Photoshop CC) to develop the images. The problem is that for the "red" images Photoshop will mute the red channel, giving the image a light-dirty-orange look. See the examples below, first two are developed through CameraRAW, the other 2...

I noticed recently some remarkably fast new 1,000X SD cards are out there, but I am wondering if any gear I have can make good use of them or is even compatible with them. Any relevant comments welcome! Is a 16GB one too small? Pentax K-3 Panasonic FZ1000 Olympus Stylus1 Panasonic LF-1 (On order: Panasonic ZS100) Canon EOS10D Thanks!

Hi, I'm one of those awkward people who like to use the back AF button on cameras (when available) but I do have an issue with my K-3's: how does one disable the re-focusing when the shutter button is (half-)depressed? I tried to figure it out in the manual but, probably because English is not my first language, I was unsuccessful. Thanks for any help!

I'm in no rush as this won't matter until summer, but I'm asking now because I'm thinking about it. Our summer trip next year will include kayaking around the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario. I'd like to take my K-3 and/or K-50 along with WR lenses. Even though they're WR, I'd still like to have them in a dry bag except when shooting. While looking for one, I notice that there are (at least) two types: coated nylon , and thicker PVC. The lighter weight appeals to me for packability, but I don't...

Hi again Everybody, Another question, please. I continue to discover for myself K-3. This time played with “Interval shooting”. Interval was set to 2sec, “Number of shots” to 300. In spite of it the camera stopped shooting after every 18 frames, after which it needed pressing shutter button again. Anybody knows the reason or workaround? Thank you in advance! Kind regards, Mcdim

Hi All, In K-x body I could switch between fixed ISO and ISO AUTO via menu available on “Info” button. QUESTION: how does it work with K3? Manual says “Press (image of green button) to set the sensitivity to [ISO Auto]” (page 39), but nothing happens - I presume I should see ISO AUTO in view finder, but I don’t. Just in case “ISO AUTO” range (visible through menu on “Info” button) at this moment is set to 100-1600. Any comments, please? Ta! Mcdim

Hi, I currently own a Sony A6000 but am considering selling it to get a Samsung NX30. Why the NX30? Well I believe it is the best Samsung APS-C model that has an EVF, except for the NX1 which is still out of my price range. Please correct me if I am wrong, I only have a limited knowledge of Samsung products. Why swap? Basically I like to use legacy glass and in particular Konica Hexanon lenses. The adapters for Sony E-mount are a little large and somewhat spoil the experience. Ideally I'd...

Sorry for the strange title, but: Has anyone held BOTH a Nikon D7100 + grip as well as K-3 + D-BG5? I ask because I have just purchased a Tokina 80-200 f/2.8, I'm thinking about getting a battery grip for my K-3. I first thought about a grip when a friend of mine, who owns a Nikon D7100 with a grip, was raving about how much he loved his. He said it made a world of difference, and that once I tried one, I would never go back. Well, I tried his Nikon D7100 + grip, and ... meh. It just didn't...

Apart from my K-3 I own and use a couple of Pentax MX, Pentax IST* (Film Version) and Pentax MZ5-N I primarily use on my K-3 the 18 - 135 mm Zoom lens but also use the 35mm f/2 and the 50mm f/1.4 plus my MF lenses. My widest lens at the moment is the 18mm of my zoom lens. I also have the Voigtländer 20mm f/3.5. I have come across an application where I need a little more coverage. After reading and watching rather disapointing reviews of the Sigma 10 - 20mm zoom and the Tokina 11-20mm zoom,...
