After seeing NOTHING but Canon and Nikon all over the place I decided to go back to my old trusted Pentax SLR and see if the older lenses can be used in this new DSLR - I was happy to see that I can. So as a cost saver and trusted name I went with PENTAX and I am so glad I did. Problems: I can't say anything on the down side to this camera - it is a good all around DSLR - it (was) a resonable price and the quality overall is excellent. All my older lenses work (non-auto) and I get great shots ...

My first digital SLR is great value for the price. The best feature is the design, everything is exactly where it should be, thus the using is effortless. Problems: -The AA -batteries run out of power quite fast in long exposures. -The 18-55 kit lens makes soft images.

Was looking at the Nikon D-50 but was swayed by user response to the Pentax. The view finder and low light shooting were the deal maker. Have over a 1000 shots in the can and very happy with the purchase. I went super cheap on lenses getting a 2.8-4.3 28-70 Tokina and a 2.8 100-300 Vivitar for the ist DS2. These are fast lenses and work great with the ist. I've taken many extreme low-light shots with the success I was hoping for. Problems: My wish is for a PEF conversion in CS2 then I'd ...

Overall, this is a great beginner camera. I had already a bunch of AF lenses from my other Pentax cameras and the switch to DSLR was an easy one. I didn't buy the body with the suggested lens, but instead opted to use my SIGMA lenses which worked perfectly. The RAW images are outstanding and colors are great. Plus, the overall size of the camera is really convenient for my hiking/kayaking/camping trips. Not too large, but still comfortable it the hand. The 2.5 inch screen is the best ...

I have tried almost all the D-SLR in the price range of 700-1000$ and I can clearly say that the DS2 was the best choice. * I started with the Pentax DS (before the firmware upgrade) for month and returned it . The images were inconsistent and too much yellow - I loved the feel so I kept in mind that I should check it later. * I had the Canon 350 for month and returned it - The camera produced Canon images (too silky, with colors that always need a boost. In general I did not like the feel. * ...

I sold off my Canon gear to get one these for the following reasons: - larger, brighter viewfinder - smaller - better ergonomics This is a great little camera that I want to hold in my hand all the time. All the buttons are logically arranged; the camera just gets out of the way and lets you take pictures. Unless you want superfast autofocus and/or telephoto capabilities you won't be disappointed. Problems: None. One enhancement that I would like is for Auto-ISO to work with exposure ...

First digital SLR camera for me. A pleasure to use my older Pentax lenses on it (yes, it works perfectly, even with manual lenses). There are 3 very similar models in the current Pentax line-up (DS, DS2, DL) maybe you are reading this to know what are the differences between them. Basically, the DS2 and DL have a new, larger LCD screen than the DS. However, the DL has a viewfinder of a lesser quality and don't have the 11 points focus system (which might not be a big issue if you're use to a ...

This little camera is great- it feels rugged and sturdy when you first pick it up- inspiring confidence- and it's so easy to use that you can start taking great pictures within minutes once you get the hang of things. The buttons are placed just where they need to be (on both sides of the LCD so you can use both thumbs) and the menus are easy to navigate and intuitive. I recommend this camera if you already have a Pentax outfit- that's what I did and I'm able to use almost all my stuff, ...
