Very good camera. I am using it for 6 months now and I love it. It is very well built and quality material are used, it simply blows away competition in this area. Also it has very nice large and bright pentaprism viewfinder it is great for manual focusing. No wonder I rated it 5 for construction. Pictures are generally very good quality, high ISO is great, very low noise. However sometimes camera has a tendency to an underexposure. Not a big deal as I shoot RAW and can adjust exposure later, ...

I've used the DS for one year now, several thousand exposures. I'm very happy. It's solid. Intuitive to use. Excellent results. Positives: Great viewfinder Superb handling DOF preview Spot metering Wonderful lenses/optics Incredible value IMHO. Problems: Nitpicking: Easier access to metering & focusing modes would make a great camera nearly perfect.

I've had my DS for one year now and have nothing but good experiences with it. I bought it with the kit lens a couple weeks before a 1.5 week trip to Maine to replace a Fuji 602z and also got used copies of a Tamron 28-200 Super II and a Sigma 100-300 at the time. On the vacation I took hundreds of photos in jpeg (didn't start using RAW until later) in all types of situations and barely got a bad shot. Shots were taken in perfect daylight, over water, in forrested areas, night shots, etc. ...

I've had my eye on the ist DS since its introduction but have bided my time, happy with getting the max out my trusty elph S230 while DSLRs either evolve or plummet in price. While I waited I picked up a K1000, Spotmatic, and some beautiful 1.4 Super Taks on eBay, all for very cheap. I knew I would go Pentax because of the excellent classic old Pentax primes that work with even the latest and greatest Pentax DSLRs. When the K100/110 were announced I looked at the specs and decided these ...

I take photos for the website and magazine ads of a major footwear manufacturer, and the DS has served me well. In a year, I've fired off over 50,000 shots, and it continues to function like new. This camera is both versatile and durable. It's high ISO performance is also extroardinary. Pentax lenses are some of the best lenses ever constructed, in my opinion. Problems: No problems really. I just love being seen with my gear and having other people test it. Other pros tell me it's simply ...

I have a 24 to 90 pentax zoom on my IST DS Pentax lens. in automatic mode it takes sharp pictures of people running unbelivable piicture quality for a still camera from the side 50ft or more in a socker game.my friend has a nikon d70 in automatic mode it is out of focas often!no depth of field the picture quality is unacceptable most the time shooting close up of people.the pentax up close is in focas and background in focas. in iphoto i can blowup the picture to max and the picture quality ...

Excellent camera, has all of the features I want and still somehow just fits nicely into my hand. I really enjoy using it. Problems: Would be nice to be able to change metering mode easier, ie, switch to spot metering and back with a button.

Pleasantly unique in the world of “affordable” digital SLRs. After months if not years of skulking around the forums and reviews, and not to mention the all important drop in price, I am now 6 months into owning this clever little camera. I’ve wanted a DSLR using my kids as an excuse- instant start up, fast focus, and seeing what you’re focussing on were all priorities. Bought on the merits of its viewfinder, small size, and compatability with old pentax and third party lenses , I am still a ...

I've had my DS for about a year now and all I can say is that my pictures come out better and better the more I use it. Whether it be my growing skill with the camera or just the camera itself, the resulting pictures don't lie. It's a great camera!

15,000+ shots and still very happy with it. Although older good lenses are getting gobbled, they are still available. Love the tactile feel of the camera, fits my hand very well. Image quality is excellent. Small size. Most lenses are small light and compact. Consumer lense line-up is of very good quality and affordable. Problems: Soft grib came loose, just glued back on. good, old lenses are getting rarer. Loudish mirror slap when used with newer lighter (plastic) lenses. As of this writing ...
