I've taken almost 5,000 pictures with this camera (and I have kept a good 1,000 of those). The only weaknesses I've found are: 1. Auto white-balance inaccurate; 2. No USB 2.0; 3. Continuous drive not fast enough.

Sensational compact D-SLR with high quality, great image making camera. I now have two Pentax *ist-D cameras and 4 lenses. I have used the Pentax to produce 20x30 images with exceptional quality. Having used the Fuji S-2, Canon 10D, Canon Digital Rebel, Nikon D-100 The Pentax is the easiest, fastest and is better built with less weight than all the others. Want to see some sensational images with my two *ists Go to: http://www.artketchum.com or check out onemodelplace.com member #20065 Problems:

This is my first DSLR. I purchased it in January. So far I have shot about 5200 images and am well pleased. I have large hands and this was a fact taken in consideration when buying this camera over a smaller one of equal megapixels. I like the weight as I like to have some meat on my cameras for stability. I am still leaning. But my learning curve is not just with this particular camera but with digital in general having made the switch from film. I'll stick with digital from here on. I ...

Excellent images, well built. Purchased as a kit with 16-45mm DA lens. PRAISE The camera has a solid build and nice feel in the hand, not too heavy. The controls are well thought out and arranged sensibly. Recourse to menus is a rare thing after the initial setup. Three custom setting groups can be saved, which is also a boon. Support for AA cells as well as CR-V3 cells gives welcome options for backup power. Image quality is very good with the 16-45 f/4 DA lens. No fringing, chromatic ...

*istD Pentax has totally fulfilled my digital SLR with TTL light metering camera expectations, and the 16mm~45mm zoom auto-focus lens is fast, quiet, accurate and light in weight. Checked again today, and body price is still under $1250 and lens is $440 less $200 Pentax mail- in rebate, no tax or S&H at http://www.zipzoomfly.com The Pentax*istD camera case listed at $99 is only $30 at www.newegg.com Had considered compared Pentax to Nikon D70, several Canons, and maybe Kodak DCS14n but none ...

I recently purchased the *ist-D, and spent two days reading the manual prior to going out to shoot. Yes, I know, "who reads manuals these days?" Anyway, I went shooting yesterday in Rochester, NY, and had a blast. I used a Tamron 28-105 AF lens, Pentax K 135/2.5 manual lens, Pentax K 50/1.4 A lens, a Pentax screwmount lens, a Pentax screwmount 24mm lens, and I'm not done yet. The beauty of it all ... every last one provided an image way beyond my expectations. I love this camera, and will ...

I have had the camera for a week and it's a hoot. Works fine. Focuses quickly and accurately. I like the viewfinder. The controls are convenient. It's a little tricky getting the CF card out but fortunately I don't bite my fingernails. UPDATE: Now I've had the camera for two months and am back home in Mexico. I thoroughly enjoy the camera, have had no problems, and it does a great job. Problems: None, but: I wish the ISO was shown on the viewfinder. I wish the buttons on the back of the ...

As former super A and Fuji 602Z user I bought *istD immediately after its appearance. It was for me the only choise because of my old Pentax lenses. Now I can use all my A lenses and it is even possible to use the older K Mount lenses, Tele / Macro converters with this camera. I took the camera during my last China visit with me. The image quality is really perfect. http://www.geocities.com/gs.geo/bestellen_1.jpg After the last software update the manual features made this camera now much ...

Best thing since sliced bread. Compare the price and features between the *ist d to the canon 10d and the Nikon D100 and you will see that Pentax can hold its own compare to those cameras. It cost $250 less plus it has mirror lockup which the Nikon does not have. It has spot meter and the canon just has a 9 degree partial meter and the Pentax has multible exposure and both the nikon and canon does not have that. It is very easy to use and feels good in my hands. It only took me half an hour ...

Seein how this is my 2nd Pentax (K1000) being the first, I love the camera. I love how it fits all of my previous manual Pentax lenses. (The Firmware Upgrade does wonders here!) I think the image quality, colour rendition and NOT OVER SHARPPEND Images are great. Photography is exciting again and I can't wait for the summer weather! *istD'a BOMB.... Problems: I wish that the compact flash card compartment would have been flipped around. USB 2.0 would also have been nice...
