I've been a Pentax user by positive choice since 1968, so I waited for them to bring out a digital body before going digital. In the long wait, I tried models from all the other stables, and seriously considered switching when it seemed that Pentax were never going to make the jump. When the ist D finally appeared, I insisted on trying one for some time before I actually bought it. Now I've had one body for 14 months, a second for just over a year, and just added a third. In that 14 months ...

STUCK on Initial Settings Screen. From the reviews that I have read I was really looking forward to using this camera but I have one problem that is stopping me from using it. I can not get past the initial settings screen, can not even scroll through the options. I know that this is not the forum for it but I was hoping that some one else may have had the same problem and was able to resolve it. Problems: Stuck on the Initial Settings Screen

I have had the D for 7 months and 3000 images now and I am very happy with it. The image quality is outstanding and I am particularly impressed with the way it handles exposure especially when shooting in RAW mode. It preserves the individual colour channels brilliantly so you rarely get a blown individual colour channel. The use of AA batteries is fantastic as it gives me the option of battery types, like disposable Lithiums, rechargeable NiMH's or alkaline if I am desperate. Even though I ...

I have used the *ist D for 6 months/9000 shots. It's a pleasure to use and the results are mostly brilliant. It's a well designed body - not bulky or heavy - actually the smallest DSLR with exchangeable lenses. And it's still very well built (steel frame inside). It allows me to use 40 years old lenses. I have done satisfactory professional work for publications and presentations with this camera. Problems: The speed is not impressing (frames per second as well as autofocus - especially in ...

compliments: Using this camera 7 monts i can say its an excellent one With produces excellent quality images. Its a lot of money to spend but it's wort it. Of course it is for me not usable to go to the other competition trademarks whit a lot of pentax lenses from my analog period. The quality of the more expensive lenses is very good til excellent, so there is no reason for it. Normaly i use the analog cameras like the Z1, Z1P and Z20 and later the MZ-3, and now i mostly use the *ist D. That ...

An excellent camera, digital or otherwise. I can find little fault with the *istD after over 5000 shots since I bought it in Feb. 2004. While every shot isn't perfect, when I do things correctly it provides excellent results. Except for the limited new lens availabilty (there are numerous used Pentax lenses availaible) I have never regretted getting the *istD. It is just fun to use! Problems: I don't like that it doesn't show the current ISO setting in the viewfinder. I have taken more than ...

Compact size, great menu design, hyper mode, viewfinder, full array of focus and metering options. Noiseless at 400 - takes respectable pictures with otherwise atrocious lenses. Mount real Pentax primes and you very quickly forget overpriced competition from Nikon and Canon. Recommend this model above and beyond the DS because of hyper mode alone. Problems: ^ < OK > V Above button quality is poor. Next model (*ist DS is not a replacement for the *ist D - read threads in Pentax SLR talk ...

The build quality and fit 'n finish are very good with a small limitation for the rubber on the trap doors (is not the ideal system). The size and weight is beautiful. Excellent image quality, I am really happy with the noise. Very intuitive to use. I use it (from april 2004) with Pentax smc DA 16-45mm f/4 ED AL, Tamron SP AF DI 90mm f/2.8 Macro and a flash AF360FGZ. Problems: Large size of RAW. 4 way button to small.

This is very good camera with perfect quality of image, without D70´s moire. No noise in iso 200, still high quality at iso 800. Very good compact design, small. Mirror lockup and every function advanced photographer would need.
