This was to be a cheap, weather resistant walkaround zoom for my new K-5 II S. On the surface, it seemed like a good bet with a tight, modern build, full-time focus override with a distance scale, metal mount, non-rotating front element and weathersealing... not to mention a nice hood included.  Seemed like a lot of lens for $150 USD new. No zoom creep, very smooth focus and zoom rings for a kit lens and fast (but very noisy) AF using the K-5 II S's screw drive motor. I think what gets me ...

a lens is like a woman, you must it understand. I'am very content with this lens, because the 11/8 construction is for me by price and by possibilities of shootong a real highlight. With my very sharp 4,7-5,8/100-300 I've a light weight, but very good standard equipment for nature photography. most of the lenses must be stopped down a few: this lens; too. My shootings in nature are performed by 100-800 ISO and f8-11. But I've changed menue program elementary: always highest contrast, highest ...

I have owned all Pentax 18-55mm lens. Some may be packaged different e.g. WR, Plastic Mount, but both share the same optical formula. That being said no two lens are exactly alike. At least its not proven so in consumer available (including Pro) lens. Most should be close to the manufactures standards of design. Sometimes there are outliers. Copies which vary greatly from the standard. When giving stars what formula do each of us use? It has to vary greatly. My formula is the following. (1) Perfo ...

This is the most basic weather resistant lens ever. Very small and light. There are better lenses out there but this one is a clear winner in price/performance ratio. I even printed quite large pictures from this lens, and for landscape it is actually fine.

Useful small light sealed lens. Sharp images at 18mm even wide open. Somewhat weaker on 55mm end. with F8 it produces very good images. Contrast is nice. AF speed is fine. Weather seals can withstand heavy rain. Build quality is quite good for a cheap kit-lens, but could be even better - tighter tolerances. If pentax imaging decide to build 18-55 markIII after some years, please use 7 rounded aperture blades and add screw type mount-cap.
