As a serious underwater photographer I use housed cameras with external strobes. A need to photograph fish in shallow rock pools however made the use of such systems virtually impossible - simply not enough space. I thus decided to invest in a small amphibious camera. I looked at the Olympus 1030sw and this Pentax Optio W30, and went for the latter because of price, much better macro facility with flash, and better placed lens, over seemingly similar other features. Extensive usage in small ...

I've finally found my "perfect" point&shoot digital to augment my Canon SLR. I have dunked 4 cameras in rivers in the last several years, tried waterproof sacks and cases and all had their issues. Not only is this little camera waterproof (more in a sec) it takes exceptionally nice photos for a point&shoot. My kids have videoed themselves going over Franconia Falls in NH (8' drop into an ice cold pool of water) while holding the camera. No leaks, awesome videos. We just returned from a 10 ...

If you want a Camera for the beach, pool, all Weather or to go up to 3meters under Water. Get It!! for the price it is the best on the market. You can let your wife and children use it too - it is hard to break it and with the auto picture the will make some impressive picture. The picture a quit well for the Camera. It is the wet and wild family camera next to mine D-lux 3 and Canon 400D. Problems: I hope I get no trouble when I go in the pool.

Great camera. I have used this camera in flowing rivers and lakes with no problems. To date I have taken over 1000 underwater images with no problems encountered. The image quality is as good as any other compact camera out there. I know many people who are using this camera for underwater photography, specificaly for fishing pictures. None of them have reported any issues with this camera. Problems: None

After my Canon S50 failed 3 months ago I was looking for a replacement compact. As I also have an SLR portability and readiness to shoot anytime anywhere (including underwater) are top priorties. I was seriously considering Olympus SW770 until I found the Pentax, quite neglected by most consumers including myself. The reason I took the Pentax were: 1. Better video performance (Olympus only 15fps) 2. SD card compatibility up to 4GB (Olympus uses xD only up to 1GB) 3. Better max. aperture ...

Rainy days are not a worry when you want to take outdoor shots. Underwater ability gives you another world of photography to explore. Problems: A little condensation on the lens when there's a sudden change of temperature
