My Optio 30 failed too and so did pentax repair department. Problems: The camera had many problems, some intermittently, behaving like it was in night shot when it wasn't (images even detecting night shot setting, although it was not), taking 12 seconds or more to focus in good lighting conditions, grainy images, inability to focus underwater except the first time. I returned it at my expense twice, after extensive attempts to get any response via email, and it was returned with ...

The camera was purchased 8 months ago for use in corrosive and dusty industrial environments. A protective silicon skin, not water proof, was also purchased to protect the camera. It was selected over the Olympus because 1- It had a better macro 2- It uses a SD card and I have a reader built into my laptop. 3- It has no moving parts. (The Olympus has a shutter) It has been subjected to sulphuric acid, dusty environments and frequent washing. Last week-end it was submerged for 30 seconds in ...

As a serious underwater photographer I use housed cameras with external strobes. A need to photograph fish in shallow rock pools however made the use of such systems virtually impossible - simply not enough space. I thus decided to invest in a small amphibious camera. I looked at the Olympus 1030sw and this Pentax Optio W30, and went for the latter because of price, much better macro facility with flash, and better placed lens, over seemingly similar other features. Extensive usage in small ...

It failed and pentax customer services failed. Problems: Pentax claims it is waterproof. I followed the manual instructions and it failed. I never took it deeper than six feet and it was in the water for less than 45 minutes. The manual says it can be submerged up to 3 Meters for up to two hours. I shipped it to the warrenty center. They shipped it back to me and said it passed the pressure test. I called and wrote to them. They said send it back and they would test it again... i said ...

I bought this camera for its underwater capability. Pictures in low light are very noisy. It is small and easy to use. Problems: After 3 days on a river rafting trip, the lens and LCD became fogged by condensation inside the camera. The store I bought the camera from returned it for warranty repair. I got the fixed camera back in about a month at no cost to me.

Sound level is VERY LOW while recording video Problems: Sound level is VERY LOW while recording video. Also, if autofocus and/or optical zoom is ON during video recording, you can hear multiple clicks during all video clip and sound level is also very low (but sound level of clicks is HIGH). This camera was bought as the second camera in addition to my SLR for video recording and everyday/everywhere use. PENTAX says that it is NOT A LACK or DEFECT, it is a FEATURE of this model. ("High ...

I've finally found my "perfect" point&shoot digital to augment my Canon SLR. I have dunked 4 cameras in rivers in the last several years, tried waterproof sacks and cases and all had their issues. Not only is this little camera waterproof (more in a sec) it takes exceptionally nice photos for a point&shoot. My kids have videoed themselves going over Franconia Falls in NH (8' drop into an ice cold pool of water) while holding the camera. No leaks, awesome videos. We just returned from a 10 ...

Very easy to use menus as soon as you figure out the green button, compact, gives better images than the Olympus. Video is good, underwater images are quite good, BUT... Problems: The first time I used the camera underwater was in a stream and got quite good images. The second time was in a similar river....shallow with very slow moving water. When surfacing I noticed the battery compartment had flooded even with the lock in place, SO I took out the battery and let it dry on the dash for a ...
