I decided on picking up the pink version since the other colors were fairly bland (Silver & Blue were my options). It takes quite nice photos and I'm definatly pleased with the video mode (which has come in handy as I use my Nikon D70 as my main camera). Over-all, it's quite well constructed, zooms fairly fast and takes nice quality photos. Problems: The downside I noticed is that it takes AA batteries rather than a LiION battery. I just bought S40 and tried a comparison test with Canon A80. Both of these are 4MP cameras. I took pictures of my son at night time with flash on. Both seem to show good pictures on LCD, I was impressed with S40 focus system under low light conditions. I then downloaded pictures on my laptop and I immdiately noticed the difference in quality. A80 was clearly better than S40. I then zoomed in the pictures by 200% found A80 pictures to be clean and uniform in color, whereas S40 had speckles ...

Great camera, good image quality, snails pace processing. This little camera is built like a tank and is rich in features. Takes good pictures and has decent, but not impressive, battery life. Problems: From the time you hit the shutter, it takes about 6-8 seconds for the camera to process the image, send it to the card, and verify the flash is charged. Longer if you use the flash.
