I bought the 555 mainly for the manual features and the 5x zoom. Very easy to use and to get good photos. Shutter-delay can be annoying, especially in low light, but no more than any of my friend's other cameras (ie canon ixus400, sony dsc...) Problems: The flap that covers the AV/USB plug is poorly designed. Opening the flap bends the plastic hinge, and I would be surprised if it lasts more than a year. I am exceedingly careful with it now, but it's very fiddly.

I bought this camera when it was first released in Japan in Sept '03. For the past 7 months it has done nothing but delight. From superb macros to vivid colours to razor sharp landscapes, this camera is capable of producing exquisite photos under a wide variety of conditions, and that is why I bought it. It has never let me down, even the low light ability is good. The combination of a fully manual, high quality camera with a reasonable zoom, (I don't really think *3 is reasonable) in a ...

Why buy a brick like the F717 or the 5700 when you can have one of these. Its a sull featured 5MP 5X zoom camera that fits in a coat pocket. Quality is sturdy, features are endless (plus a full range of shooting controls - even flash comp). Battery life is also very impressive. What can I say, I love it. Problems: Focus in low light is a bit slow but very accurate thanks to passive AF. Only downside to image quality is bit of pincushion at full zoom otherwise its superb and the colour is ...

This is a great little camera. It is very easy to use and has great features. I bought this camera because it is compact (ideal for travelling) has 5x zoom, lots of features, excellent battery life and of course good reviews. It hasn't disappointed so far. It has produced some great photos, it does focus in low light (but stuggles with the zoom) and I haven't notice much of a shutter lag (but this is comparing it to my old camera, a Nikon 880) The in-camera picture editing is also great to ...

Great Camera. Easy to use. My wife and my six year old could take pictures with it right out of the box. The six year old is a serious photographer. We paid $ 361.00 after the $ 50.00 rebate from DigitalMegaStore.com. We bought 256K SD on e-bay for $ 50.00 and and extra battery with camera case for $ 20.00. Takes great pictures and the zoom is nice. The manual viewfinder works with the lens zoom. I have not tried all the features yet. Good brightness on the display. The camera is small. I ...

Overall, an excellent camera as far as image quality and features are concerned. Build quality is not so good though, and the camera feels vulnerable to shocks. The camera is expensive - whether you should buy it depends on how important the 5X zoom is to you. It's also not a recommended camera for beginners and can be fiddly to use at times. I would rather go for a Kodak, even if that means sacrificing some image quality. Problems: (1) It is impossible to switch the camera on without the ...

This is my first digital camera. I have owned a number of film cameras including SLR's. I was looking for a wide range of features and good optical zoom in a compact body. This camera has given me just what I was looking for at a very reasonable price. I am very pleased with the image quality, exposure, zoom lens and features. Most functions need to be set through menus, so it is a little slow to use but I am not trying to do action shots. The USER function allows you to store your preferred ...

Had this camera for about 20 days now. It has worked great. Awesome macro shots and excellent details in the pictures. I didn't notice much noise at ISO 200 or below. Although it tends to bring out a lil more pink on people's skin than in real life. This may or may not be to your liking and can be adjusted in the camera. Zoom is pretty fast but not as controllable as I would like. Good flash abilities, all the flash pictures had good color to them. The LCD is very good in most lighting ...

I bought the Optio 555 because I was looking for a compact camera that could be used as a point and shoot as well as providing the ability to manually adjust settings. I was also looking for good macro performance. The Optio 555 has been wonderful. My previous camera was a Kodak DC4800. The pentax provides far more functionality and image quality is clearly superior. For samples including some macros, visit http://www.restall.optio.photoshare.co.nz I love this camera! Problems: None
