Geeze folks, sure there's some noise, but it's not that bad. I bought this thing the day it came out, and have been very happy with it. Construction is robust, and the controls are so easy even my wife will adjust to suit the situation. We've framed several 8x10's from this camera, and guests can't believe we actually took the pictures. Macro mode is fantastic, and the remote with a mini-tripod is simply brilliant for group shots. I'm actually in some pictures now! Bottom line. My brother ...

Compared to other cameras I've owned, this is by far the best. Extrememly easy to use and figure out. Excellent for super macro pictures.

UNACCEPTABLE NOISE! Pentax Optio 550 owners disgruntled by extremely HIGH NOISE LEVELS and POOR CUSTOMER SUPPORT are petitioning Pentax for a FIRMWARE UPGRADE. Although directly related to O550 owners, this issue should be of concern to all that own Pentax products. Unless something is done, this is the shameful level of product support you can expect from Pentax now and in the future. Please show your support by signing and publicizing the petition here: http://www.petitiononline.com/ptxo550 ...

Great little camera, though not without its flaws. I've taken a great many photos since I bought it 2-1/2 months ago. Very solid feel. Compact so it goes everywhere with me. Excellent zoom range for its class. Crisp, clean photos at lower ISOs. The plastic tripod mount, though cheesy looking, works fine. Though keeping the tripod baseplate on the camera blocks access to the battery/SD card compartment. Not a big deal; some concessions are to be expected with a camera this small. Some vignetti ...

Overall very nice small but powerful camera.Great outdoor pictures quality. Very easy to use outside. Have to learn to do good indoor photos. Very sensitive to the object surface reflection coefficient when defines flash power, so I learnet to use exposure compensation to balance that. Have to carry small flashlight to help focusing in low luminocity conditions.Have to be patient between the shots waiting for image transfers to SD card. Problems: - next to impossible to focus when it is dark ...

An awesome camera only let down by people (see post below) who don't know how to use a camera. I now have the 450 (mine) and the 550 (daughters) and there isn't a camera to match them for a combination of macro, zoom, manual settings etc. The video is average but I bought a still camera for the stills, not for the video. Problems: Only those caused by me :) Some noise in the 550 shots but all overcome by Neatimage

Batteries lasted 3 weeks with 300 photos! Camera is so small, you can always have it with you. Very light weight and easy to use. You can take very candid close ups without attracting attention because the lens looks too small to be a telephoto. Very tight lens assembly! Try this test. Activate the telephoto lens, grab it, and pull back & forth. No give! Now try this with an Olympus. The lens will wobble all over the place! Now for the bad news . . . Problems: Slow turn on time to ...

Have had the camera for approximately two weeks, have taken approximately 200 photos mostly used in program mode. Pictures very clear and sharp, excellent saturation and a vast improvement on my old Pentax compact film camera, (now a toy for my daughter to play with) The 5x optical zoom is a real bonus, have noticed some delay with focusing in low light with the zoom fully extended. Not a real issue however. I am amazed by the number of features and the amount of manual control that can be ...

i replaced my Canon S40 which was stolen with this camera on a whim. I could hardly have made a better choice. The images I have taken mostly scenic and macro/supermacro are the best I have ever taken including with my trusty old Nikon F3 or the S40 for that matter although some of the S40 features were slightly better. I am surpised that some publications classify this as a "beefed up point and shoot" because it is far from that. This has got to be one of the best compacts around. this ...
