Product description
Announced Mar 7, 2010

Panasonic's replacement for its original DMC-G1 that kick-started the compact interchangeble lens sector. It retains the same 12.1MP Live MOS sensor but gains an updated Venus Engine HD II processor capable of 720i60 (50 in PAL countries) video recording in the AVCHD Lite format. It also gains greater external control of AF modes, a dedicated button for jumping straight to the iAuto point-and-shoot mode and well-implemented touch-screen controls. Its high-res viewfinder makes the G2 a compelling alternative to an entry-level DSLR.

Our review

The G2 is very much the camera the G1 should have been. The addition of a decent HD movie mode, some cool touchscreen features and minor enhancements throughout turn an already good camera into a great one. Image quality is excellent (especially at lower ISOs and when shooting raw), handling superb, and responsiveness impressive. A fun, functional, and friendly alternative to a traditional SLR, the G2 packs a powerful photographic punch too.

Good for: Anyone wanting SLR quality and compact camera ease of use. An easy to carry 'walkaround' camera.

Not so good for: Low light / high ISO work, sports action
