I'm trying to provide a remote help to my friend who is stuck in the middle of vacation with some problems with E-PL5+14-42 R II kit lens. I'm running out of ideas, perhaps someone can help. Symptoms: no liveview on the LCD, LCD does show a blinking 2.5" shutter speed plus ISO-Auto 1600 plus all the usual status icons The camera does nothing when a trigger is pressed This happens both in iAuto and in Av modes where we tried to manually open the lens apperture What we tried: Restoring...

I upgraded the firmware to 1.4 just this month; the upgrade went fine and completed since I got a big OK in the screen. But when I turned on the camera, the assist lamp lights up and if the lens cap is off, will take a picture by itself. The shutter button doesn't work anymore. Now I'm stuck with a camera that I cannot use. I tried, resetting; but still the same behavior happens every time when turning it on.

I have a Epl5 but my arthritis in my fingers has prevented me from being able to use the controls effectively. I have looked at alternatives & the E-M10 is much easier to use. I also like the EVF & the overall feel of the camera. I have 2 lenses for the e-pl5, 14-42 & 40-150. The camera was intended as a holiday camera, light & easy to carry. I know I will loose a good bit on the sale or PX, but it's no good keeping a camera I find difficult to use. Is the overall performance of the E-M10...

I have an E-PL5 with a bad rear dial - it functions but it changes settings so frequently I literally need to use the camera in auto mode. Some research indicates two things: that the design was flawed and this is a common issue, and that  the unit itself is the problem and replacement is necessary to fix the problem. I have installed the latest firmware for the PL5 and it did nothing to resolve the problem. Does anyone here have some long term post-repair experience with the PL5? It looks...

I set up my e-pl5 so the the Fn AEL/AFL button uses spot metering and locks the exposure, not the focus. That way I can use the button to take a single spot metering (1/8th of what I can do with my OM-4T). I have the REC button to switch to manual focus. To gain the single AF I used AEL for this, and am willing to lose the AEL. However, if I set AEL, locking the exposure and then switch to manual focus, the exposure lock is cleared. To me, this is a bug. Changing to manual focus should not...

So, here's the situation. Last January, almost a year and a half ago, I purchased the Olympus E-PL5 and I have loved using it. I love the size, the image quality, ease of use, almost everything except for that it lacks an EVF. So to compensate for this, I have recently started looking into an external EVF such as the Olympus VF-4, which I have found for around $130 used. I was almost set on ordering the VF-4, but then I had a thought. Because the EM-5ii came out recently, the original EM-5...

So, I have the Olympus E-PL5 which I love for photos, but I have started getting interested in taking videos more recently. Of course, this certainly isn't the best camera for video, but I'm not that into yet, so it does OK. Anyway, I figured one of the first things I should probably invest in for video is a decent microphone, so the question is, what would be a good external mic for the E-PL5? Thanks for any help! -Aidan O'Maille

I purchased a Nikon J1 for family photos and vacations and then upgraded to a Nikon V1 shortly after. I love the size and speed of the Nikon 1 system but now I have the ever popular itch to upgrade. As a guest here for years, I've been reading & learning and have over time added street photography, some landscape photography, and family portraits to my very amateurish range of skills/tastes. Current Gear: Nikon V1 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 (2) 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6 10mm f/2.8 18.5mm f/1.8 Watch...

I'm traveling to Chicago soon for a work-related meeting. I want to spend some time between conferences shooting a bit. I won't have a ton of time, and plan to pack my gear bag very lightly. I suspect that buildings, people, and the Lake Michigan shoreline will be the top three subjects. I don't really anticipate needing long focal lengths, but feel free to remind me why I might be wrong. Here's the dumb question: Which one prime would cover it all? I'm thinking E-PL5 with the MZ 12-2 or MZ...

Just got a new E-PL5 today and have been playing. So, as the manual says, if you set the aspect ratio to 4:3 ,which is the native M43 image size, the image only uses about two thirds of the LCD. If you use 16:9 then the image uses the entire LCD but, what the sensor actually sees is being cropped  . Just wondering what most people set their E-PL5 to. --Bill S.“Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst.” Henri Cartier-Bresson
